5.0 out of 5 stars Doubles the value of my camera
I bought this CD-ROM eBook first for my Nikon CoolPix 990 camera, and discovered the vast possibilities of this "toy". Being a professional trade magazine writer for the graphic arts press and technique editor of a photo magazine, I feel quite at home with photography in its silver and digital forms, as well as digital imaging in general. 2.0 out of 5 stars Overpriced, and of limited use
This is certainly not worth the price. Of the 458 pages of the book, only 133 are of potential use to me. Trial versions of software are worth very little cost, since anyone can get them with a bit of searching. Someone who uses Photoshop (not Photoshop Elements) might find this of more value, but the filters included do not work with Photoshop Elements. And I don't...

5.0 out of 5 stars Doubles the value of my camera, August 17, 2002

This review is from: Mastering Nikon Compact Digital Cameras (Version 5.0) (CD-ROM)
To my surprise, Peter iNovas book transformed my CoolPix from a toy to a most useful tool for serious work. It helped me to extend the use of my CoolPix to areas I never dreamed of, and it has delayed the investment in more expensive equipment many times.

Plus, the eBook is frequently upgraded. Recently, I upgraded my eBook for the 2nd time to v4. Very handy when I also upgraded my CoolPix to the CP 5000.

Thanks M. iNova for writing us this wonderful books. No editors beleived in this project so M. iNova made an ebook instead of a real book. And it's great cause you can see real digital pictures and 300 Photoshop filters are included and many examples to work with. This is a must have for all Nikon Coolpix 990 owners. We're very lucky to have a book on digital photo specific on our camera. It's not just a user guide, it's a digital photo lesson for YOUR camera.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mastering Nikon Compact Digital Cameras, July 31, 2001

Using the techniques listed I was able to rediscover photography. I have read 1/3 of the "book" and learned new techniques or relearned old concepts long forgotten.

Why only 4 stars, this "book" should be a book w/cd supplemented by his website...In the preface he explains his reasons for using this format, but I think a traditional book (spiral-bound) would have been better.

This leads me back to the content, so far it has been excellent and I'm sure I will get [my money]out of it.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mastering Nikon Compact Digital Cameras (Version 5.0) (CD-ROM)
Overall a great 'book'. Slightly unusual format using Pdf files on CD vs printed text. Great examples and even better helpful tips. The tips are great. Currency is maintained through the use of a web site. Digital darkroom relies heavily on Photoshop. (I still can't afford a copy.)

Glad I bought it.

A concise, well written presentation of "All you need to know". The important points are covered in the order you need to see them. You get started quickly, and move rapidly in a detailed but logical manner through the workings of the coolpix line. Required reading if you are serious about learning to get the most from your tools.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sophisticated, yet easy-to-understand, instructions, December 26, 2002
This review is from: Mastering Nikon Compact Digital Cameras (Version 5.0) (CD-ROM)
Nikon cameras are at the opposite end of the spectrum from point-and-click cameras. They offer subtle, professional controls that may be difficult to understand by only the reading the manual. After many hours reading the Nikon manual, but not being able to put the knowledge into practive easily, I read the CD and saw the examples. It all began to make sense.

Peter iNova's CD adds valuable, useful, professional instructions with pictures, examples, filters, tools, reviews of accessories, tips on operation and printing and a lot more to the value of the Nikon you've purchased. I'd even venture to say that you may only be getting half your money's worth from the camera unless you read this book; you will certainly save at least five hours of frustration. Nikon should give one away with each camera they sell!

Someone who uses Photoshop (not Photoshop Elements) might find this of more value, but the filters included do not work with Photoshop Elements. And I don't use PhotoShop due to its high price (so to be fair, chapter 9's 20 pages may turn out to be applicable to the image processing software that I do use).

I would certainly not recommend that anyone buy this book without first leafing through it at the bookstore ... What's that? No opportunity to do so, since it's a totally CD book. That makes it worth even less tome.

I'd have been happier to pay half or less of the cost of this book, for what it is.

This book is a great accesory! The Coolpix990 is a great camera, so it is worth the additional investment in this book in order to learn how use the camera to it fullest capabilities. The book reviews the camera options and controls far beyond the the Nikon user manual. It is filled with tips, techniques and little secrets. In addition to better understanding the camera, Peter also offers many general photography tips and advice. You are also provided with many Photoshop filters for free. The illustrative images are all high quality. This is a MUST-HAVE if you would like to learn at utilize the many features of the Coolpix.
