This review is from: Mastering Cortisol: Stop Your Body's Stress Hormone from Making You Fat Around the Middle (Paperback)
There is plenty of well-displayed information about cortisol in this book. The author knows the subject and is extremely readable. But if you're suffering from a raft of vague symptoms and have read about copper overdose, chronic fatigue, vitamin B12 deficieny, adrenal fatigue, clinical depression, hypothyroidism, hormone issues, and a number of other syndromes/diseases, this book will further confuse you.
Since I started "feeling like this," I've read at least two dozen books on as many subjects. Now I know about cortisol. My doctors don't know why I feel like this and the symptoms related to cortisol are nearly identical to too many other problems. I do have "a bit" too much copper in my system. Suggested solution? Zinc and B vitamins. I am in adrenal fatigue. Suggested solution? Less stress and B vitamins. I'm post-menopausal. Suggested solution? Contradictory. Being a vegan I have a B12 deficieny. Suggested solution? B12. I had the tests and didn't feel any better. In fact, I got depressed to the point of needing therapy. Suggested solution? Either anti-depressants (no thanks) or B12 injections. The list goes on. My husband watched me go from a happy, active, productive human being to a depressed, sedentary, disinterested wreck. My self-help medical books are now in a box in the garage. I added a few nutritional supplements to my diet, got off my butt and started moving around again, and now look and feel one hundred percent better. If you're wrapped up in the "could THIS be what's wrong with me" mess, try adding B12 and (for a cortisol problem) zinc citrate to your diet, read Larry Winget's "Shut Up, Stop Whining, and Get A Life," and I guarantee you'll change your health (and point of view). I don't want to put down this book, but it really is vague and sounds like too many other "syndrome" books. I hope this review helps someone out there . . . .

Enormous stress for a couple years had significantly impacted my waistline, and I knew the culprit was cortisol. I researched a lot of books on the subject and decided on this one, and I'm very glad I did. This book explains everything, and includes a course of action to stop and reset the cortisol problem, including a vitamin, mineral and amino acid regimen that lasts 3 months. I followed the plan and lost 15 lbs and several inches, and I was able to keep going because I knew I only needed to do it for 3 months. I highly recommend this book!

The Body's Stress-Chemistry and Whole-Life Support,
This review is from: Mastering Cortisol: Stop Your Body's Stress Hormone from Making You Fat Around the Middle (Paperback)
I purchased and read this book 3 years ago, and still keep it by my bed as a quick-reference! Marilyn Glenville does a great job explaining the body's chemistry during stress and the long-term repercussions of it - in layman's terms. She describes a whole-life approach to taking good care of the body to minimize the effects of stress. I highly recommend this book!

Great Book!,
This review is from: Mastering Cortisol: Stop Your Body's Stress Hormone from Making You Fat Around the Middle (Paperback)
I disagree with thee other review. I borrowed this book from my local library & this is a pretty good book packed with good information. If anyone out there suffers from adrenal fatigue like me, I reccommend this book "Adrenal Fatigue" by James Wilson. This is another great book about adrenal fatigue. I also suggest that if you have adrenal fatigue, you should see a holistic medicine/naturopath doctor because they run blood test that checks hormones thats imbalanced, and they look for the root cause for your medical issue. If you go and see a western medicine doctor (M.D.), their test is different. They set a standard on their test, and it won't pick up disease if you are in the EARLY stages. It will pick it up only if you are in the LATE stage of disease. They do this because the pharmaceutical companies fund them and sometimes their education so that you use chemical drugs to mask only your symptoms, and not fix the real root problem of disease. Don't forget the M.D.'s get paid by the pharmaceutical company every time they write you that prescription. You can be skeptical and not believe this and learn the hard way, or you can go and see a natural medicine doctor/holistic doctor to truly heal & learn how to eat better OR continue to take chemical drugs by these pharmaceutical companies with severe side effects that you WILL discover down the road. IT'S UP TO YOU, IT'S YOUR CHOICE! YOU CHOOSE.
