I found this book to be very helpful to me in connecting and using the Microsoft Access database with some Visual Studio C# programming I was struggling with. It is the only book I have found that at all addresses Access and it adequately covers the needed information to make the connection and manipulate data using SQL. Whether you are using Access of SQL2000 and especially if you are struggling I highly recommend this book to you.

By Mohsen "Mohsen Massoud" (EGYPT) - See all my reviews

very good book helps the programmer to get what he needs in the shortest time, well organized, very clear and has useful examples.it covers many topics in one book (SQL server, ADO.NET and C# database programming) in a way that makes it easy to do your code without opening too many books. the only limitation is that it covers only SQL server database programming, I wished if it covers alos Oracle and MySql. thanks to Jason price

This book is probably the best book in the market if you want to take your novice c# asp.net skills to intermediate/expert level. It provides plenty of good examples and practically all the knowledge you need to become a fully competent c# asp.net developer.I especially found the chapter on SQL and T-SQL particulary awesome. As a Senior DBA who has worked on SQL for 7 years, I thought the author had superb knowledge of SQL transactions which I rarely see even amongst the SQL books. I highly suggest every c# developer to delve deelply into the SQL chapters of this book as it will increase your T-SQL transaction knowledge exponentially.

Tutorial with lots of screenshots,
By Jack D. Herrington "engineer and author" (Silicon Valley, CA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Mastering C# Database Programming (Paperback)
The book has a tutorial style with tons of screenshots. It works through examples step by step with lots of code and not much exposition. If you want an on-rails guided tour to the .NET database APIs with C#, this book is for you. For me I would rather go with an introductory style which gives an overview of an entire API. An example is the chapter three section on SQL, which is thirty pages long. It only veers off the rails twice, once to talk about less than, greater than, equals to, etc. and another time to talk about and, not and or. The chapter spends only half a page on insert, delete and update. If you wanted to learn SQL from scratch you couldn't do it from this chapter, and if you already knew SQL, you would skip this chapter. So I'm not sure what the purpose is.Conclusion, if you like "on-the-rails" tutorials and you want to learn .NET database programming that way, this book is for you.

Should be more than 5 stars,
By Peter Smith (Texas, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mastering C# Database Programming (Paperback)
I bought this book and the same author's Visual C# .NET book, also from Sybex.I found the introductory chapter on SQL very useful, since I didn't know SQL to begin with; I found it contained everything I needed to know to get going with databases. Just enough without going overboard! This book teaches the basics of databases, and then plunges in to teach how to use C# to access a database. The book also teaches advanced data access using C#, such as caching data in an ADO.NET program.

Mastering C# Database Programming,

I have purchased from Amazon before and find the purchasing experience has been very easy. It is the item I purchased that I have an issue with.I do not use the book I am refering to but I do the purchasing for some of our engineers. I was just approached with a complaint by one of these engineers that received this book. He asked me to write a review so the supplier will be aware of a problem he is having. The book has several reference pictures included in the pages and the instructions tell you to see the example and read what the example in the picture has to say. The reference pictures are so blurry and the typeing in the pictures is so small it is very hard to read and almost impossible to understand what it is trying to ref to. If he hadn't already highlighted some of the information in the book, I would probably try to return it.

This book is a good introductionto SQL server 2000 programming with C#. The author introduces the basics of SQL server in the first part and focuses on the ADO.NET in the second part. I like the format well. Overall a very good book.

Great book on basic database programming,
By
This review is from: Mastering C# Database Programming (Paperback)
I picked up this book to translate what I know about database programming from Unix to Windows. Although this book is a bit outdated since it was published in 2003, 99% of it was useful for me today. This book easily helped me transition my Unix coding into the Windows world and I will be keeping it close on my bookshelf for my day to day needs.
