Book Description

Mastering October 1997
HTML is the fundamental coding language of the Internet and intranets--and now it is built into Windows 98 itself! This book is a true teaching reference for HTML 4.0--the latest version of the language. Readers learn the basics of coding frames, tables, and forms; then they move to handling images, animation, Java applets, and ActiveX controls; and finally they graduate to creating commercial-quality Web pages for all the latest versions of browsers, such as Netscape Communicator, MS Internet Explorer 4, and the Active Desktop in Windows 98. A handy language reference rounds out this essential desktop reference for anyone interested in creating a Web site.

3.0 out of 5 stars Offers nothing you can't find for free, February 15, 2000
This review is from: Mastering Html 4.0 (Paperback)
I purchased this book knowing very little about HTML. While it is a handy desk reference, I found that the free HTML tutorials available online at WebMonkey and Webdeveloper actually explained how to develop tables and stylesheets much better then Mastering HTML 4.0 did.

As a previous review states, it touches on JavaScript, but The JavaScript Source is a free online resource that contains much more information then this book does.

In my opinion, there is no sense spending money on a book when all of the information is available for free on the Internet...learn from my mistake!

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitive Guide to HTML with Tools Samples, September 17, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Mastering Html 4.0 (Paperback)
This is the most comprehensive HTML code book I've read. It not only does a bang-up job of HTML, but it provides references for CSS, Java, Javascript, and Netscape & Microsoft proprietary code as well!

I highly recommend this book to advanced HTML coders and Web Authors. It addresses many complex topics that will benefit the seasoned coders. I don't recommend it to first time HTML authors or WYSIWYG HTML writers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beginner level..., June 9, 1998
This review is from: Mastering Html 4.0 (Paperback)
This book is a really good book for all of you who are staring to learn html. It is easy to read and well structured. It will not only teach you tags to program your web page with, but also how to use ftp and a little about how the net is organized. And it comes with a cd full of all sorts of goodies...

If you are an experienced html programmer, however, this one will not do much for you. It sweeps into most of the parts of html, but never deep enough for you to get a real and thorough understanding of the topics, especially Dynamic html. So, if you want to learn javascript or cascading stylesheets, get a different book- you won't need all the html basics that Html 4.0 covers. Avoid the html 4.0 books and look for a pure Javascript, Cascading Stylesheet or Dynamic Html book...:)
