5.0 out of 5 stars I got the job, thanks to this book!!!!!!!!!!!, June 26, 2009
This review is from: Mastering the Job Interview and Winning the Money Game (Five O'Clock Club) (Paperback)
This book helped me land the job I wanted, right out of the box. It taught me how to be prepared, and really helped me realize that one of the most important things about interviewing is what you do after the interview. The follow up is extremely vital if you really want the job. The samples and advice in this book are extremely helpful!!!!!

This review is from: Mastering the Job Interview and Winning the Money Game (Five O'Clock Club) (Paperback)
A complete set of The Five O'Clock Club books and a membership in The Five O'Clock Club was given to me earlier this year as part of a layoff package (my entire department was cut), including this book. "Mastering the Job Interview and Winning the Money Game" is the last piece of a complete program that builds from step to step, rather than a standalone book, but even if you take just a few tips from this book here and there, it will be very helpful. In the past, I've been fairly good at writing resumes and interviewing, but I'd never known how to negotiate the numbers. This book demonstrates how it can be done successfully, even for people who tend to be understated.

I used the approach in this book to both negotiate my salary higher and to negotiate my rent lower, which more than covered the entire three thousand dollar package from my former employer. Salary negotiation is a business discussion, like any other business discussion we have on a regular basis either at work or at home. Surprisingly, however, none of my friends knew how to take this approach, so I've been giving out this book as gifts.

This book is certainly worth its weight in gold. Kate Wendleton may have written her best guide with this one. The information about researching industries and companies before and after interviews is explained in no nonsense language. By being prepared like that one can certainly eliminate competiting interviewers as well as competing thoughts. Insight is also given for those who are looking to do consulting.

I was actually disappointed the book came to an end. There seems to be so much more Kate Wendleton has to offer on this subject. Five Stars.....Try more like 10!
