I bought this book after having my second child. After which, I could not gain any energy or lose any weight. I was 32 and learned to drink coffee so I could take care of my new baby. I had not had my thyroid for about 9 years at this point. With NO help from my doctor, I bought this book. I went to my doctor to make sure I could take the supplements suggested and he laughed at me and without really looking, told me I could waste my money on these things if I wanted, but they would not help me. Well...one year later I returned. Twenty pounds lighter and with more energy than I could have imagined.

All because of this book, I learned more about my body than any doctor ever explained to me. I agree with some other reviewers that it is complicated at times if your not in the medical field. He explains that you will not always have to take these supplements. Only until you fix the problem. I spent a lot of money. Worth every penny. He helped me identify and fix problems that I didn't even know could be fixed.

I also read, 'Living Well with Hypothyroidism' by Mary Shamon and she references this diet to be the best one for people with little working thyroid or no thyroid because we are slow oxidizers(takes a long time for our bodies to digest) and only eating 3 meals a day and no snacking is best for us.

So, I could go on and on, but if you are having issues that no one can help you with, get this book. On his website he also offers cd's that are excellent.

I have lost 75 lbs with diet and excessive exercise after reading many diets and failing them. I counted every calorie and jogged 20 miles a day which was very hard. However, since reaching my goal weight 7 months ago my weight kept creeping up despite exercising a lot and eating a low fat healthy diet 6 times a day. I ended up binge eating on the weekends and tried every diet to go back to my target weight and failed until I read this book. I used to be obsessed with food, I was either eating or hungry waiting for the next meal. I sometimes ended up binge eating 7,000 kcal or more in one day and then exercising and dieting the whole week to reverse it. Initially it worked but then I was unable to do it and felt more and more fatigued and tired. I almost gave up a month ago and realized I had failed my attempts to keep my weight down. I am so thankful for this book. I have a life again and reached my goal weight (lost the 15 lbs I regained since reaching my goal weight) again with little effort and exercise. My cravings are for the most part gone. In fact, I had to keep a food log because I ended eating not enough calories during the 3 meals.
I would recommend for most people to start with larger meals so that 5 to 6 hours between meals will be easier. After one or two weeks your body adapts to the diet and you won't need such large meals anymore. I have not felt full for at least 10 years. I felt stuffed after eating several thousand calories of food while binge eating but not the normal full. My stomach was bursting full and in pain and I was still hungry. After 2 weeks on the "leptin diet" I felt full and I don't have to count calories anymore. In fact, I can eat whatever I want most of the day and feel liberated. No more time consuming meal planning. I focus on getting the breakfast really nice with protein, berries and yogurt which I usually eat as a shake with a piece of low sugar or sugar free cake. The other two meals I eat what I want, I just try to avoid sugar and white flour most of the time.
The leptin diet is pretty open with the food choices as long as they don't induce cravings later during the day so you need to play around a bit and see what causes cravings and what not. I noticed after a month that most foods don't induce cravings if I get the breakfast right.
Thank you for this book. I am a medical professional myself and I knew a lot of the information already but not the five rules he derived from it. Highly fascinating and effective!

I tried this way of eating after reading on leptin on the internet. I immediately felt the difference and have been following it for a week now. The book is not really necessary as the steps to follow the diet are readily available, but I purchased it to read more about the process and why it makes such a huge difference.
Benefits observed include:
#1 Sleep: I wake up feeling GREAT every morning now. I have an iPhone app which logs my sleep patterns, and instead of seeing the usual set of jagged peaks, I'm in deep sleep for the majority of the night.
#2 Hunger: I've been hungry for 40+ years and am thrilled not to be hungry all the time anymore!
#3 Digestive health: Definite improvement, I'll spare you the details, but IBS is gone.
#4 Convenience: No more snacking makes life easier.
#5 Weight: It's going down effortlessly.
I am immensely grateful for this book and highly recommend it to everyone! Am logged on today to purchase copies for friends and family.
