Book Description

Mastering Mechanical Desktop October 15, 1997
Designed for users of AutoCAD 13, this brief companion book teaches students and professional users of Mechanical Desktop how to create and edit 3D solid models using MD's built-in parametric modelling tools. It explains how to perform design-driven parametric modelling of complex assemblies, in which manipulation of a dimension in one part instantly adjusts the dimensions of related parts interactively and visually on the computer screen. MD's parametric modelling tools can automatically generate from a 3D model a complete set of 2D, multiple-view drawings - automating the process of creating technical 2D views for presentations; in addition, changes or edits made to the 2D views instantly modify the 3D model. These "documentation and inter-operation" capabilities are covered in this book. Companion books are Cheng's "Mastering Mechanical Desktop: Surface Modeling" and "Mastering Mechanical Desktop: Native Solids".

4.0 out of 5 stars Tutorial Guides Through Frustration of Solid Modeling, May 21, 1998

This review is from: Mastering Mechanical Desktop(r): Parametric Design (Paperback)
Ron Cheng provides a guide which walks the user through part & assembly modeling. Illustrations are decent and instructions are straight-forward. Criticism: Often the author refers to an illustration which occurs on a previous page during step by step instruction; which means the user has to flip back & forth between pages...this can be frustrating and slows one down. Also, there is no index in the back for quick reference. Good points: Cheng shows the various different ways commands can be used & leaves it to the reader to pick the preferred method.

For the price, this is an excellent start for the user who wishes to learn Mechanical Desktop.
