Best 5.5 general book out there,
By A Customer
This review is from: Mastering Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 (Paperback)
The key to this book is the sequence of the information presented. Chapters really bind with each other, resulting in easy reading. It's a general Exchange book and should be treated and evaluated as such. It covers pretty much the entire system but of course doesn't get to enormous detail. Overall, if you are looking to get baptized in Exchange, this is the right book and it will handhold you for quite some time. Eventually you'll have to dig for more in-depth info.

Good for introduction, not for advanced.,

Excellent companion to a study guide or cram book, not for advanced users looking for a "how to" source.

Basic at best,

This review is from: Mastering Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 (Paperback)
This book is really only good for the basics on administration of Exchange Server. It has only a one sentence mention of the Exchange Scripting Agent which is one of the biggest features of 5.5. It does nothing for trouble shooting. I'd look at other books before buying this one if I had to do it again.

Great Introduction to Exchange,
By A Customer
This review is from: Mastering Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 (Paperback)
This book is a great introduction to Exchange. While it will not give you every in-depth detail, it does cover the product well enough to get you going. I found it a big help in preparing for the MCSE exam, but it should be used in conjunction with some other sources. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I found the lighter style made this an easier read, which is always helpful with a 1000 page book.

Well organized, infomrative,

This book had almost everything I was looking for in a book about Exchange. Although advanced features are not heavily focused on, the issues of initial deployment on NT was covered entirely. I was up and running with a full service Exchange Server with SMTP/POP in about 2 hours...

Not intended for MCSE Study Guide,
By A Customer
This review is from: Mastering Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 (Paperback)
As many of you cybex fans already know, this book is not intended for Microsoft Study, but rather for those who need to know how to do something and how to to do it fast, instead of the ideas behind how to do something.

This book is poorly written and uninformative.,
By albrecht@colint.com (Downstate Illinois) - See all my reviews

Anxious to supplement the poor documentation that came with our new Windows Nt Small Business Server, I thought this introductory book would be helpful. I couln't have been more wrong. The author spent pages to describe the obvious (things like what menus look like) and frustrate the reader (we'll explain that later) I found the style insulting and childish and the content lacking. To the author I would say, "Stop trying to be cute, and just give us the nuts and bolts. Anyone who is interested in Exchange Server starts with a level of computer sophistication that your style only insults."

The book is very well written. The screen shots are also very helpful. It's very good compared to other Exchange 5.5 books.

For the wannabe MCSE,
By A Customer
This review is from: Mastering Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 (Paperback)
I started to use this book to study for the MCSE exam, but quickly rushed to my computer to order a different book. This was my 8th MCSE exam and I used the Microsoft Press books to study for the rest, so I am use to having information presented in a concise, technical format. This book attempts to present the material in a whimsical, story-like fashion, which may be well suited for those unable to grasp this complicated material, but I would suggest those who have what it takes to become an MCSE to buy another Sybex book: MCSE Exchange 5.5 Study Guide.

I agree entirely with Wong. Was very disappointed in this book. That's what I get for being so eager to get started on 5.5. The book is extremely basic and unfortunately, boring. Details of Exchange 5.5 are replaced by unnecessary text which I did not find humorous.
