Hi All,

After reading the book Mastering Microsoft Virtualization, I found out that book provides a good cover for topics on App-V + MED-V. However, the Hyper-V, Remote Desktop Services etc. doesn't cover all the required information (e.g. SAN setup for Hyper-V, Remote Desktop Services Gateway, load balance solutions of a full farm, session broker high availability step by step guide, missing of Visio diagrams with servers IP's etc.).

Many administrators should already know by now that virtualization is the future. Right now though, I'm sure many organizations are still a little hesitant on moving their entire infrastructure to the cloud or to a virtualized model. However, the beautiful thing about virtualization is that there is a little something for everyone and this book gives you a great look at just what Microsoft has done in the virtualization market. The major topics talked about includes Hyper-V, App-V, Med-V, VDI and Remote Desktop Services.

The book was well written and very easy to follow. The chapter on VDI was excellent as it provided you with information on how to quickly and easily set up a VDI test lab. After reading this book, I am even more excited to see what Microsoft will be doing with Windows Server 2012 in regards to virtualization.

Mastering Microsoft Virtualization is a complete "how to" manual on Microsoft virtualization technologies. IT professionals looking for instruction on how to implement an end-to-end virtualization architecture using the full range of Microsoft virtualization solutions should buy this book. Other books I have purchased on virtualization have focused completely on machine virtualization with an emphasis on servers. Buller and Cerling expand the topic to virtualization at all levels in the architecture, including desktops and applications, offering insights on how to utilize virtualization solutions in combination for maximum benefit. IT managers will find value in Chapter 6, which offers a suggested approach to running an evaluation project and ideas on how to determine the business value proposition to justify an IT investment in virtualization. Finally, the value for readers is expanded by numerous references to recommended tool downloads, expert blogs and resources from Microsoft and third parties - most of which are free. Mastering Microsoft Virtualization is practical, comprehensive and thorough. It should be on the bookshelf of any IT professional working with Microsoft virtualization.

I liked this book better than the other books I have read on Hyper-V. A definite "How To" manual on the various virtualization products that are provided by Microsoft. It covered them all in good depth and lets you feel comfortable in using the products. It helped me to better understand the products that we have in our production environment. I also found it useful in helping achieve my MCITP in Virtualization since there a no self study books for the two exams required beyond the Hyper-V exam. Well worth reading to gain an understanding the suite of products from Microsoft.
