John Beckett has accurately captured many of the struggles and tensions Christians experience daily in the marketplace. Aspects of the author's journey are common to many Christians. His chapter "Integrating two Worlds" will be a help to any Christian in the marketplace -it is an issue that continually manifests itself. The phrase "I found that my growing faith was often relevant to work issues - but the reverse was also true. Workplace issues challenged and strengthened my faith, occasionally more than I anticipated." provides an encouraging perspective. The author shares his own experiences in this realm - in a transparent way that should be encouraging to all who read.

The section "Companions on the Journey" provides a number of biblical stories and characters from which much is to be learned and applied to our work world today. These are not one size fits all stories, but the characters and illustrations the author selects will provide much to think about. This is mixed in with some stories of contemporary business leaders and recent situations they have faced and their responses.

Finally, a discussion of God's workplace agenda and what theme's the author believes are critical in this discussion. In light of some recent business failures (more specifically failures of leadership) - this section does a good job of connecting the themes to "good business". It is a reminder of what really matters - and some encouragement to have the courage to do the right things.

This is a pretty quick reading book, but I don't think it is a read once and put it on the shelf. I'm sure I'll be referring back to it every year or so to remind myself of proper perspectives and to be encouraged in my work.

Total integration of the concepts that bring Christian values and work together as expressed in Mastering Monday work. It is not fiction. This book is really just an extension of John's life. I've known John and his family for more than thirty years. Jesus said, "By their fruits you shall know them." Sometimes you have to get close to inspect the fruit. John's faith, family and business are definitely integrated. The fruit that I've personally had witness to for over three decades is as high a quality as anyone that I know in Christendom. If you're a Christian who has to work for a living, you should own this book.

Mastering Monday is essential reading for business leaders, or anyone who leads and manages other people. John Beckett draws examples from biblical personalities and business leaders who have walked with integrity through difficult challenges. Beckett shares out of 40 years of success as a CEO while maintaining his integrity. This book is insightful and inspiring. It is easy to read and well worth the time to read, not once, but again and again.

Before I share my thoughts with you regarding Mastering Monday I'd like to take you back with me to one of Mr. Beckett's first books "Loving Monday"

Several years ago I came about a book titled "Loving Monday - Succeeding in business without selling your soul!" Shortly after reading "Loving Monday" I had the privilege of meeting Mr. Beckett, the man who wrote "Loving Monday" and by the grace of God I was led to Christ. I have stayed in touch with Mr. Beckett ever since and we have become great spiritual friends. He is a true spiritual mentor to me and many others.

When I learned that Mastering Monday's had been written and then received my copy I could hardly wait to read it. I was exited to learn what the Lord had stirred in Mr. Beckett's heart to pour onto the pages of "Mastering Monday". From the very beginning of reading it the one thing that was stuck in my mind was the word "Master" and I kept saying God Bless you Mr. "B" you truly have Mastered brining the words and history from the bible and applying them to the world we live in today and situations we encounter.

I urge anyone and especially those in business and positions of authority to read both of these books. You'll be thanking God you did!

John Beckett has a great gift for conveying profound truths in ways that are both appealing and applicable. This book takes the reader beyond the ground covered in his first groundbreaking work Loving Monday. Mastering Monday provides encouragement and guidance to those interested in bringing together the worlds of faith and work. John's writing has improved my life in significant ways.

This book covers how to effectivly join your Christian Faith and your work environment together through many practicle biblical examples and modern day examples. I couldn't put the book down, and felt very connected to God's plan for my company as I read it. I have used this book to aid in defining my company Purpose and Core Values as well as providing an understanding in writing to our employees about our views of the importance of People, Stewardship and Serving Others. With these new focuses in place, I believe we have set ourselves up enabling God to bless us in ways we never imagined.

The book, Mastering Monday, set the perfect example for all business people to follow. As I was always curious of why "church versus state" this book answered lots of my questions. There is such a thing as "it's just business" somewhere in our line of duty, but this book gives the big picture and how "God" and business is truly connected.
