Look no further, as this is the best and most comprehensive guide to mastering your Nikon D300 or D300s. I recently upgraded my camera body from a D200 to the D300s and I was looking for something to guide me through the additional settings and functions of my new camera. This book is everything that I look for in a photography instruction guide of this kind. Overall, this book is well laid out. There are plenty of photos that are well numbered, with easy step by step instructions to guide you through the menus and settings. Cameras are getting more and more sophisticated and even a seasoned digital photographer will find this guide extremely handy. Highly recommended for beginners to seasoned shooters.

I can only echo the previous reviews left before me, and I am sure that there will be many more 5 star reviews to come.

Without doubt, this is one of the most well written guides for any product (photographic or otherwise) I have ever read, let alone the D300s. Darrell's style is informative yet easy going. His manner of explanation inspires confidence in a way the that will allow you to develop your owns style without tying you down to rigid rules or ideas.

The supplementary information avaliable on the book's companion web-site is actually useful (unlike many books) and further extends on the background knowledge required to understand every aspect of the D300 and digital photography in general.

Although far from being a camera designed for the novice, this book is good enough to make a novice user understand how to use it.

I recently purchased a Nikon D300s when my four-year old Nikon D40 failed to power up. Hoping to learn as quickly as possible how to navigate the wealth of new features and settings that this professional camera might bring to my photography, I pre-ordered Darrell Young's "Mastering the Nikon D300/D300s". I was not disappointed when it arrived. The book's thoughtful organization, friendly writing style and detailed explanations of some of the camera's most advanced features, such as `Shooting Menu Banks', `Custom Picture Controls' and `Active D-Lighting', had me using the camera comfortably in no time. The author's own personal D300s settings and how to use them, which are found at the end of most chapters under the title `My Recommendations', proved to be an excellent starting point while I was becoming familiar with the camera. I have since configured some of the camera's settings to reflect my own style and requirements, a sign that the book achieved its principle objective of "...mastering the Nikon D300s". The book is `Highly Recommended'.

I purchased this book after looking through some threads at the nikonians.org website about some particular information regarding the Nikon D300. This book covers every single menu setting in detail. I have learned things about my D300 that I did not even know it was capable of! This book will be an invaluable piece of reference material for me as long as I own this camera. The author not only does an excellent job of discussing all of the menu options (sometimes in almost painful detail), but also referring you to the applicable pages in the owners manual. There is a lot of information here to absorb, but I think you will be the wiser for purchasing this book either in physical or electronic form and keeping it as an extremely handy reference guide.

I have a least 3-4 Books on the D300 and Darrell's book is the best I have read. I have gotten more information on using my D300. His writing is so easy to read and understand than any other book. I would frecommend this book very highly.

Great book, easy to understand - love photography but a little dense when it comes to getting the best from my camera - love the book.

I purchased this book in order to help me understand the multitude of menus modes and functions on my D300. The book explains in a clear, concise and logical fashion what each setting is meant to offer and the author gives his recommendation which is a good starting point for a new owner.

In addition to the hard copy I have now bought the Kindle edition as this is somewhat lighter to have in my gadget bag!

The book is very well-organized, well-written, and comprehensive. I thought that I knew the D300 pretty well but this book provided some additional information that I immediately put to use. I expected this book to be good based upon my experience with Darrell's D90 book. When there is a true successor to the D300(s), I will be looking for a Mastering the Nikon Dxxxxx book.
