I just have to take a few moments to share a wonderful experience with your patient flow book!!! I have 50% of an Administrative Fellow working with me on some projects (he finished his masters degree from Univ of Minn - MHA) and is now working here in a couple areas. I haven't hired someone to fill my Sr Director of Ambulatory Operations yet and needed a bunch of analysis on 3 different physician outpatient centers - - focused on space utilization/capacity, staffing resources, etc. He has NO experience working with physicians and no experience in a physician practice except as a patient. I told him the kind of data I was looking for, handed him your book and said to use it as a resource for what he should measure and how he should measure it and sent him off to interview the 3 practice managers and to gather data.

I returned from my week away and he has charts, graphs, and all kinds of analysis for my meeting with him tomorrow. And it looks just like the kind of data in your book!!!!!

Yes, he is smart and motivated to excel. But, obviously your book was an excellent self study tool that he was able to read and use very quickly!!

Thanks for writing a great book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Improve Your Medical Practice!, December 15, 2008
This review is from: Mastering Patient Flow: Using Lean Thinking to Improve Your Practice Operations (Medical Practice Management Core Learning) (Paperback)
This book is a "must read" for every physician and every practice administrator! Elizabeth is a nationally-known expert in the field and she shares with us the "practice of the future" so we can position our medical practice for success, along with practical tools to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the patient visit - not only for the physician, but also for the patient. This should be required reading for all staff in a medical practice! It lays out the latest tools in scheduling, patient access, telephones, check-in, check-out, and all the steps in between, along with data and measures to evaluate your medical practice. This book is absolutely terrific - it is thorough and practical with take-aways that can be immediately implemented in practice!
