I don't often recommend a book, and I never write reviews--I'm too busy. But I had to make an exception for this book. I own many Photoshop books, and I am always on the lookout for titles I have not seen before. I had never seen this one, but recently stumbled into it in a big box bookstore. After spending an hour or so reading it, I ordered a copy from Amazon. Print Design and Production? Could this be a rival to the classic Real World Photoshop series? Sadly, one of the authors of that classic series recently passed away. I thumbed through the book, expecting to see nothing not covered in the excellent Real World series--but soon I was hooked. The book DOES treat print design and production in very useful detail. But, despite what I expected based on the title, I found it covered a lot more in depth. More importantly in a very clear presenation style, it gave information on features and use of Photoshop tools I had never seen before, and I have been using Photoshop for a long, long time. I thought I knew everything there was useful to know about most of the tools, but on almost every page I found new and detailed information about the most effective ways to apply the tools and features. There is not a trace of a one-shot ad hoc treatment in this book. In most books at times an author presents things in a way certainly clear to the author but not to the readers. Not in this one--the author must be gifted at consistently giving clear explanations.

Everyone has his or her own style of learning and applying material, and one person may intensely dislike a book which another person thinks is excellent--so you will have to judge this book for yourself. But take a close look. I suspect you have not seen it before, or if you have you might not have looked at it in detail. I place it in the very top category of any Photoshop book I have ever seen, and I place only five books or so in that category. I hope Mr. LoCascio writes many more books of this caliber. I also have to comment on the quality of the Sybex printing. This is a rugged book with excellent print quality.
