The book provides a masterful guide for the advanced reseach students and a powerful teaching tool for their supervisors. Postdoctoral fellows and experienced researchers will also find it to be an indispensible handbook for periodical review of their research expertise. The book also contains some ground-breaking work in social/behavioral science methodology.

Professor Chen provides the burgeoning social/ behavioral science graduate student with highly useful tools and critical insight into the state of the art in research technology, as well as its limitations. A must-have resource for anybody working on a doctoral dissertation, this book not only provides outstanding tips from a well-seasoned researcher and scholar, but comfort along this sometimes weary path. I highly recommend this book to professors to use as part of their assigned classrom texts. It should become a necessary addition to every social/behavioral science researcher's library.

Thinking about doing a Ph.D.? Get this book handy. Let it accompany you all the way from the beginning to the dreamed publication of your dissertation. I wish I had it five years ago so I would have gotten all done already without being stuck so many times. I have read many methodological books but this one helps me to start understanding them. Reading it makes me feel like receiving professional as well as personal advices from a great mentor. I thank the author for restoring my confidence in research.
