4.0 out of 5 stars Mastery Elusive, Mastering Helpful
I bought this title after purchasing and working through _Introducing Revit Architecture 2009: BIM for Beginners_. I had already built a case study building model and needed a reference for the things I wanted to do that weren't covered in the beginner book. Mastering Revit Architecture 2009 has fulfilled that role. I find it more readable than most computer books, a...

2.0 out of 5 stars (Hardly) Mastering Revit 2009
This book of "Mastery" is really just a longer introduction. I also got the Introducing Revit 2009 book and really expected to get to know the program between the two books. The editing in the book is horrible. In one instance two whole paragraphs from the previous book are in this one word for word and have nothing to do with the exercise. It's the same concept, but a...

I find it more readable than most computer books, a lot less of "insert tab A into Slot 2" instruction that leaves you lost in the middle of it. Still, it isn't about "mastering" the application. Maybe it should be titled _Wrestling with Revit Architecture 2009_ as the more I use Revit the more I realize just how far from mastery I am. For anyone wanting to learn, however, Mastering Revit Architecture 2009 will help you get through.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Real-Life Guide, November 16, 2008
This review is from: Mastering Revit Architecture 2009 (Paperback)
As an architect, this book helps with real-life Revit issues, and doesn't focus on simple tutorials that do not address real life scenarios. I often get frustrated with other books, such as those by other authors, that show neat tricks but do not get to the point of real CD production. This book is a valuable guide, and I have bought everyone in the office a copy to relieve pressure on our BIM manager and to speed up production by sharpening everyone's skills.

Thanks for a great book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mastering Revit very helpful, September 18, 2008

Mastering Revit Architecture 2009 (Mastering)

While anything as complex as Revit can't possibly be covered in one book, I found this book to be very helpful in my own development with the software. If you don't have a real live 'Revit Master' right at your elbow when you have questions, this is the next best thing.

I've had the 2008 version of this book and it has always been my number one reference book on Revit. This new version has a lot of useful updates, explanations and samples. Great job!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Revit Book, October 5, 2008

I used this book to teach my Revit class. I am very pleased by using this book. The book explores beyond the "picks & clicks" of the software. It really digs into how you can use the software beyond the orthagonal-type buildings. The client showcase within the middle of the book is great because it really shows what is possible within Revit Architecture. Keep up the good work.

This book of "Mastery" is really just a longer introduction. I also got the Introducing Revit 2009 book and really expected to get to know the program between the two books. The editing in the book is horrible. In one instance two whole paragraphs from the previous book are in this one word for word and have nothing to do with the exercise. It's the same concept, but a completely different exercise.

To top it all off, most of the files on the companion website conflict with the exercises going on in the book. In Chapter 20, have of the first exercise is alread done and adding detail groups resulted only in errors. It was impossible to embellish the wall section in Chapter 21 for example to match the imported detail; the wall section did not match the wall section in the book nor could I find a wall section elsewhere that did.

I hoped to have a book that would detail how to use the program and function as a reference book while learning the program until the processes became natural. I will not be returning to this book as a reference. If you need an introduction, get the first book or this book, but certainly not both (if either).

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a Great Guide, October 29, 2008
By
This review is from: Mastering Revit Architecture 2009 (Paperback)
As a student trying to find a book to supplement a Revit class, this seemed to be the only one out there. However, it was a very general guide and failed to address a lot of questions I had while working on projects in Revit. The book is probably better titled "An Overview of Revit" as it does not really help you to master it at all.
