5.0 out of 5 stars Very worthwhile, December 31, 2000
This review is from: Mastering Sadhana: On Retreat With Anthony De Mello (Paperback)
Carlos Valles was a contemporary of Anthony De Mello and attended his sadhana retreats. This book is a record of one of De Mello's last given retreats. Valles describes the main themes of the retreat and much more. Great insight is given into the genius of De Mello, as well as very interesting biographical information. I have read this book about four times.

De Mello is one of the great spiritual lecturers and writers. It is a big pity that his life ended while he was in his early 50s, it would have been interesting to see where his thought went and how he would have faced the Vatican and it's questioning of his ideas. Fearlessly, no doubt. Valles, though he lacks the charisma and bite of De Mello, he is a highly accomplished author and spiritual master himself.

A book definately worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, October 22, 2011
This review is from: Mastering Sadhana: On Retreat With Anthony De Mello (Paperback)
I didn't read this book as it was a gift for someone else. However I can talk about the Awareness which It is a great book. Anthony de Mello was a mystic and wise man who just wanted to share his happiness with everyone who is willing to listen. In the book he talks about being happy just with what you have and who you are. Stop searching for other's approval, for getting power and/or money. It is good to have goals and dreams but not making your happiness dependent on them. If we learn to dettach from people, material things, power, money, in one word "ego"... we are just left with life, and then we'll start to feel better and actually happy. That's the idea I believe.
