This review is from: Mastering Scientific and Medical Writing: A Self-help Guide (Paperback)
I bought this book with great anticipation. So, I was extremely disappointed when I received it and found that the layout and design was hideous. For some reason, the editors (the author had no say in the matter) decided to
place crucial information in text boxes/tables with a dark blue background on which they used BLACK letters = I could not read the material at all. And for such an expensive book, there was...unbelievably...NO INDEX. I would have greatly preferred just a black and white layout with judicious use of fonts, sizes and styles and REDUNDANCY of information, plus a nice, detailed index.

It is a shame that the editors sabotaged the author's work, since she really does know a lot about scientific
writing. But I cannot recommend the book as it stands now for any of my Japanese scientists who need to know
what is in it. For anyone interested, there is still a significant need for a book targeting Japanese researchers, scientists, and physicians who need to report their findings in international journals in English. I think these two editors at Springer Verlag should learn the meaning of USER FRIENDLY. They really dropped the ball on this book. The first rule for an editor is "Know your audience!" They don't have a clue or they just don't care. Extracting the important information is like pulling teeth. No thank you! I wasted my money.
