This book is definitely NOT suitable for beginning Spanish students. Skip the first chapter with the authors' attempts at explaining basic conjugation patterns for the various tenses, which intermediate students have already learned anyway. From Chapter 2 on, the book goes into studying irregularities in conjugations, categorizes irregularities by type, with comprehensive lists of verbs that fall into each group. The analysis and breakdown is extremely helpful, especially for those verbs that fall into more than one category. A couple of categories with only two or three verbs (such as dormir) could have been dealt with as exceptions rather than in separate chapters, but the authors did show how even the exceptions fit within a logical pattern with the others. I continually use the book as a reference to the verb lists to check whether a particular verb is conjugated irregularly or not. I recommend this book for any serious Spanish language student.

As someone who likes to understand the system behind everything, I'm finding this book the most helpful work yet in making sense of Spanish verbs. I takes a little thought and familiarity with the grammar to follow, but if you can bring that then it's a tremendous timesaver.

A word of warning on the Kindle edition, however: the tables that are meant to highlight an irregularity of a given person/number for a given verb or verb type (see the 'nacer' example in the Introduction in the online sample) are all broken. The Intro chapter is the only one where they work; after that, in every chapter there is some kind of HTML or CSS bug that makes them not appear as tables but just lines of bold text with grey vertical bars over them. So, the touted 'visual' approach does not actually work.

So, I returned my kindle edition, and will order the paperback instead.

In order to understand this book you must first learn their secret coding system for verbs. BLAH! As if learning a second language isn't already hard enough. Perhaps if you had learned from these guys initially you would understand this system, but if not fugeddaboutit! I'm VERY disappointed in this book!
