I'm a newbie when it comes to SCOM. This book helped to understand the basis of this product. I'm pretty sure that SCOM is somehow harder than some other tools out there, so you really need someone to light the path and that's when this book comes handy for.

When I bought this book there were almost no other choices but I'm glad I got it!

Likes:
* The book is explained in a very clear form (I'm not a native English speaker and I could understand it with no problems)
* I enjoyed the review the Author did about the public frameworks (ITIL & MOF) and how SCOM fits to them
* You should definitely read the Backup and Disaster Recover Chapter
* The chapter about Application Performance Monitor is really good too!

Dislikes:

* I was hoping to find more real life examples from the author's experience on the field; don't get me wrong, there are some... But I would've prefer to have more tips from him

* I was hoping to find a way to monitor the uptime and performance of my Internet Links.... I had to look somewhere else
* I think the Management Pack Templates should've been reviewed in this book
* The biggest disappointment I had was finding so little info about the integration with other system Center Products (Service Manager, DPM, VMM)

Final Thoughts:
If you are not very familiar with this product, this book will definitely help you!

I really thought it would be more of a technical deep-dive. Don't get me wrong, it is a nice-to-have book in the shelf for reference, but I really would not call this "master" level.

This is the best book I have found on the topic - I would love to see an update for 2012 R2.

I learned quite a bit from this book. I would recommend it to anyone getting deep into System Center 2012 monitoring.
