The best book to start with,

This review is from: Mastering Tcp/Ip for Nt Server (Paperback)
I'm a certified Microsoft trainer and I specialize in TCP/IP. When students ask what book they should start with, I always used to say, like everyone else, Douglas Comer's _Internetworking with TCP/IP, vol 1_. OK, Comer's book is great. It is a college textbook and it reads like one. If you want/need that level of detail, then get it. But for people just starting with TCP/IP, this is a much better book to start with. It is also helpful if you just need to know more about NetBIOS over TCP/IP. I've been waiting for Mark to write a book like this for years now. His writing style is very reader-friendly. He keeps it full of information but in a way that doesn't overload you. If you haven't read his outstanding articles in Windows NT Magazine, you're really missing out.
I also know Todd and Monica professionally and have a lot of respect for their talents as engineers and authors.
A good addition to an MCSE's library.
(My opinion is my own and does not necessarily express that of my employer, QuickStart Technologies.)

Well written guide to the "Redmond" flavor of TCP/IP.,

This review is from: Mastering Tcp/Ip for Nt Server (Paperback)
Another exceptional member of Mark Minasi's "Mastering" series for Microsoft Backoffice. This is a good middle of the road guide to the Redmond, WA. flavor of TCP/IP ... but don't expect a down & dirty disection of the protocol. This is aimed more at MCSE candidates or sysadmins wanting the skinny on implimenting TCP/IP in their WindowsNT network, using WINS, DNS, Proxy Server and IIS. Reads well, like all of Minasi's books to date!

I returned this book, and you should too.,

This review is from: Mastering Tcp/Ip for Nt Server (Paperback)
I was just starting out in the field, and I picked up this book on advice from a friend. I wish I hadn't. I had already read through...Minasi's other NT book...The descriptions in both books were entertaining, but maybe I was spending too much time having fun to learn anything useful. I had to go get another book, Douglas Comer's _Internetworking with TCP/IP_ to really get a handle on this material. I recommend that book whole-heartedly, but I am thoroughly disenchanted by Minasi..
