Book Description

Author Steve Sharp tells his students that the thesis statement is the sun around which EVERYTHING in their paper orbits. Every sentence must fall within its gravitational pull and obey rational orbital laws. Otherwise chaos ensues. If you really want to succeed in the academic world, you simply can't afford to leave your readers scratching their heads after they've read your paper, wondering, "What's the point of this? Why was this written?"

MASTERING THE THESIS STATEMENT teaches you just about everything you need to know to write an effective thesis statement and improve the quality of your academic writing. Because writing is such hard work, you may have to revise your thesis many, many times before you discover the gem that shines brightest - a thesis that not only suits the content and purpose of your paper but also truly reflects what you're trying to say.

The information in this "book" could easily be found on writing advice websites from your university, from your professors or a writing tutor. It's more like a FAQs than a guide. Each turn of the Kindle page takes up 6% of the content (or consider it to have about 17 Kindle pages, some of which are the cover and copyright information) and I finished it in about 10 minutes. Much of the text is in the Amazon product description and the same information is often repeated (for example it will state: Put your thesis statement at the end of the Introduction; then ask in a checklist format: Did I put this statement at the end of the introduction?). This ebook is not a good value if you consider a content-to-price ratio. 99 cents would be a more appropriate price as this ebook would mainly be used as a referential checklist that you look at occasionally while drafting a thesis statement. The information on a website which collects ad revenue would also be a more appropriate format than a $1.99 ebook.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for what it is intended for. October 27, 2011

A very well written short albeit insightful book. I was not looking for a website with information in it like the previous reviewer stated would be cheaper. I needed a narration, to be taught so to speak about a thesis. Steve Sharp has created an excellent book to guide any college student to master the thesis statement. He uses metaphors and explains why on earth this tricky concept is needed. I understand better now how to make a thesis than when I went googling for advice. This book will be great for any one taking on-line college classes and needs a teacher to teach them about thesis statements. I am very satisfied and feel the $1.99 was well worth it.
