A wonderful story about hope in the midst of pain, November 10, 2007
This review is from: Masterpiece of Joy: From the Despair of Infertility to the Joy of Adoption (Paperback)
One question that I often grapple with is why so many bad parents have children, and people who would be great parents struggle with infertility. While I have had no personal struggles with infertility, I know many who have. Frankly, things just don't seem fairly distributed.
The author of Masterpiece of Joy struggled with the same question--but on a deeply personal level. Bobbie and her husband experienced years of unexplained fertility before finally being blessed with a child through adoption.
As you read Masterpiece of Joy, you will struggle with the Grubbs through their pain. You will also rejoice with them in their triumphs--not just the final triumph of the actual adoption, but all of the smaller triumphs along the way as they learned to deal with the pain of infertility.
I shed many tears as I read this book, both of sadness and joy. Yet I came away with a sense of peace, and the beginnings of an answer to my original question. I may never understand completely why so many bad parents are blessed with children while good people struggle with infertility, but it is very clear why the Grubbs went through their struggles. God chose them to be Jay's parents, and this is the way that had to happen.
I recommend this book to anyone who is struggling with infertility or adoption, or anyone who simply wants to share in this couple's experience. But buyer beware: the picture of adoption is painted so beautifully, you might just start thinking you should consider the option yourself. I know I did--and I already have four children!

Evidence that God is in control!, November 12, 2007
This review is from: Masterpiece of Joy: From the Despair of Infertility to the Joy of Adoption (Paperback)
Masterpiece of Joy by Bobbi Grubb gives the account of one couple as they experienced the emotional pain of infertility, but then found the joy of adoption. Those that are walking through these issues would thoroughly benefit from reading the Grubb's personal story. Even those that are not dealing with issues of infertility will be blessed as they see God's plan unfold. I was able to relate their experience to other areas of my life, and realize that even though in the midst of the storm, we cannot see what lies ahead, God is in control, and His purposes will be fulfilled. When we can truly grasp hold of that concept, we can rest in Him regardless of the uncertainty, disappointment, and chaos that may be going on around us. A definite must read!!!!!

A wonderful and inspirational story!, October 4, 2008
This review is from: Masterpiece of Joy: From the Despair of Infertility to the Joy of Adoption (Paperback)
After my twin sister and her husband had great success with an open adoption, my husband and I have been considering doing the same for the last three years. After reading Bobbie and Steve's inspirational story, we are ready!
We are currently taking classes for fostering-to-adopt but are also very interesting in open adoption. The Masterpiece of Joy was a very honest story about the ups and downs of what we can expect. Also, it reminds us to keep our options open and be prepared for possible setbacks. I think this will better prepare us for what lies ahead.
If you buy this book, make sure you have a big box of tissues!
