Great introduction to Nat's early material,
By The Fancy One "blackprincess" (Westchester County, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Masterpieces 19 (Audio CD)
My introduction to the music of the King Cole Trio came through this very CD. It has become one of my favorites. It made me want to go out and find more of their material, which I have done since I purchased this CD. For those who thought that Nat Cole was merely a guy who sang "Mona Lisa", when you hear his genius on the piano, you will understand why so many in the jazz world got upset when Nat started singing pop ballads. He was without a doubt one of the best jazz pianists I've ever heard! The vocals here showcase a young Nat (you can hear Nat's future potential in the song "All For You"), but the emphasis is on instrumentals. Goes to show that the King Cole Trio was hands down one of the best groups to emerge from the 1940s, if not THE BEST, and not just because of Nat Cole. You had the magnificent Oscar Moore on guitar, one of the very best guitarists of the day, and Wesley Prince and later Johnny Miller on bass...absolutely amazing. BUY THIS CD...you will not regret it!
