This review is from: Masters of the Americas: In Praise of the Precolumbian Artists (Hardcover)
This is a large size, heavy book, with great color photos and explanations. I am a collector of Pre Columbian art and artifacts, and this has interesting annotations and terrific color plates.

This review is from: Masters of the Americas: In Praise of the Precolumbian Artists (Hardcover)
This is a very beautiful book with lots of pictures of fine examples of precolumbian american art. A focus is put on Mesoamerican and Andean art, mainly stone masks and figurines, while the final part of the book is dedicated to pre-columbian gold objects. However, I liked the parts with the figurines most. The book consists of eight chapters covering different pre-columbian cultures, and each is complemented by short introductions of the respective cultural background, plus description of the individual master pieces depicted in the book. While the price of the book is rather high (I happened to obtain it on a book fair at a more modest price), for anybody interested in pre-columbian art this book will certainly be a real enrichment.
