I got this CD when I was in high school and we were doing a video for an English assignment, and the climactic scene needed some redneck hillbilly music to accompany the characters' accidental discovery of Black Gold in their backyard while burying their cat. So my buddy Tom stole this CD from his dad so we could use "Let Me Fall" on the soundtrack, and it somehow ended up at my house after the dust had settled. For about 5 years it was a novelty CD, used only to elicit a laugh out of casual Case Logic browsers, but then one day I must have been [happy*]or something and I put it on and listened, and found out that it's a wonderful CD. I don't give it 5 stars though because I'm sure there must be better banjo CD's somewhere, because what are the chances that a guy like me would have just stumbled on the best one? That's what I thought.

Not on this collection. The styles exemplified include old time mountain music, parlor tunes, celtic and even African banjo! And yes, some bluegrass. All of the players are indeed masters of their styles, and all deserve much more attention. For the banjo fan, this is a must-have, but even the casual listener will find most of the tracks listenable and highly enjoyable.
