Helpful Tip,
By
This review is from: Masters Of Horror (Audio CD)
This isn't really a review; it's more of a helpful tip. In order to avoid having these garbage copyright protection programs from automatically downloading onto your computer you have to turn off the autorun on your CD-ROM drive. I turned mine off after that Velvet Revolver CD downloaded that crap to my system and I have had no problems since. As for the CD I'll give it four stars. It's like any other comp album, some good songs, and some bad songs.

Good buy for the money - Copy protection?,
This review is from: Masters Of Horror (Audio CD)
So I went out and bought this album because I saw it on MySpace and heard some of the tracks on Sirius Satellite Radio. Overall a cool album and very affordable price for the content. Problem? There's a content blocking program built onto the cd. Truthfull, this is one album you SHOULD steal.

Don't Buy This Cd - Mediamax Copy Protection,
By
This review is from: Masters Of Horror (Audio CD)
I purchased this CD and am horribly displeased with its copy protection. It uses a new version of Mediamax that, like its predecessor, installs to your computer without asking and prevents you from ripping/playing the CD as you would like by garbling the sound and causing sync errors. Unlike its predecessor however, the method of removing the unwanted software from your computer is still currently unknown, and I've even heard that the Shift key trick no longer works.
As it stands, I've spent hours just trying to remove the software from my computer, nevermind rip the tracks I purchased so I can put them on my iPod, and I'm about through with this crap. I plan on writing many an angry letter, and so should you.

I bought this because I was happy to get myself some wonderful Masters of Horror music. Then i found out about the copy protection and the fact that it made copying my nusic null and void.
Granted, I can go and do a few things to my computer to make this fiasco go away - for the tme being. The problem is that I shouldn't have to be one of those people that needs to turn off something to listen, nor should this feature exist in the world outside of debate. I thought the CD was mine and the copy I wanted to make was my right. This is not the same thing the creator thought and, well, it causes a problem that really destroyed my playtime with the music. Instead of wanting to review the songs here, I want to review a feature on the disc and go further by saying that this is something you should avoid. All the songs can bepicked up via different forums and, well, those forums are the way I am going. MP3 world - yes. This - I gave it to someone and told them I had a problem with it. combine that with the fact that this was not told to the clientelle - me - and it should be an issue. I know a lot of people don't think it is that horrible, but look to the reviews and see where it got this album. It sold and then the red flags flew. Hopefully you understand, as a buyer, what sort of problem you get with this.

Pretty Decent ALBUM,
By Darth Rahl "a7xcurse" (Central Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Masters Of Horror (Audio CD)
I am aware of the whole copyright protection software that is automatically uploaded onto your harddrive whenever u try to rip or burn songs off this cd, but I'm here reviewing the actual ALBUM, not the software that is decidedly annoying and pernicious. Now let's talk about the music. First let me establish some credibility. I listen to a sundry list of bands ranging from Gothenburg melodeath metal like In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, Soilwork, and At the Gates to more musicianship focused metal like Opeth, Dream Theater, and BTBAM and even some whiny emo like Funeral For A Friend. I look for music that is either very relatable musically or lyrically or music that I can aspire to eventually play on guitar, or even music to just cheer me up. So I looked at the tracklist for this album and was pretty impressed. Shadows Fall and In Flames are probably the two best bands on either disc, but what's cool about this compilation is that it's not all straight up heavy metal. There's a lot of emoish music on here yea, but I don't always want to listen to Unearth or As I Lay Dying. I love the Funeral For A Friend track and the Armor for Sleep one too. There's a great range of music styles on this compilation, but they are all within the same vein. So don't look for a really really heavy set of discs with a constant barrage of double bass pedaling and alternate picking. This is just a really great set of songs from some really great bands. I personally would've loved a two disc set with one cd being dedicated to really heavy stuff like As I Lay Dying, In Flames, Soilwork, Dark Tranquillity, Shadows Fall, Trivium, Unearth, Misery Signals, BTBAM, and Heaven Shall Burn and then another with more emo-inspired stuff like Funeral for a Friend and Armor for Sleep. I still recommend this to everyone who likes heavier stuff, but within a range. And for $14???? I saw the tag and got it for sure. I don't regret it at all and u shouldn't either. Now only if Darkest Hour or Black Dahlia Murder were on this....

Where's the horror?,
By
This review is from: Masters Of Horror (Audio CD)
We get it, nobody likes copy protection, so just let it go and tell about the songs included instead of dwelling on something as trivial as copy protection.
I for one went into this expecting something that was a bit scary, seeing as this is a soundtrack to a new horror mini series. Instead what I got was about 5 good songs and the rest just being anything but good. Of course this could be because I don't like this 'emo' movement that's been getting more and more attention over the past year. The bands featured that I do like are ones that are hard rock/heavy metal. Normally I have a very open mind towards new music, that's the reason I was so optimistic about this compilation, but when all was said and done I was disgusted. Mudvayne's Small Silhouette was a great song, not they're heaviest but I could see why it was featured. Same goes for Norma Jean's Shaunluu, a song that fits perfectly with the rest of their catologue. Bloodsimple's Overload was a song I've wanted to hear for ages and lived up to my every expectation. Buckethead's song featuring Serj Tankian sounded exactly like old System Of A Down, and I think I speak for every SOAD fan when I say this is a welcome treat. Serj has never sounded better. And In Flames' Discover Me Like Emptiness was a relatively good song. Those round out the good songs for this 30 track collection. My favorite songs on here are Mudvayne's Small Silhouette, Norma Jean's Shaunluu, Bloodsimple's Overload, Buckethead's We Are One, and In Flames' Discover Me Like Emptiness. For me, this wasn't worth the money, it was an admirable attempt to cash in on the music that's popular today though. Unfortunately for people like me, what's popular is 'emo'. To me, there's very little horror in these CDs. And by horror I mean death metal, heavy metal, and some hard rock acts. A word to the makers of this soundtrack: Next time, don't buy in to what's popular, put what deserves to be on it.

Album not worth the spyware it installs,
By Pwyll "John" (Portland, OR) - See all my reviews

The other reviews are correct in their assesment of the music presented here. I'm writing this review to warn you that this album will install Sunncomm's MediaMax software without warning on your computer should you try to play in on your computer. Fortunately the installer crashed on my system thanks to spyware blocking software I'm running.
This DRM copy protection software is difficult to remove should it infect your system. There is no warning on the CD cover or when it installs the DRM software, you only find out afterward. For this reason I give the album 1 star, the music's not bad but the DRM software being installed without your knowledge makes the risk of owning this CD not worth it. I agree with the other reviewer who said this CD deserves to be stolen.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

im glad i only purchased this set for one song because half of it is unintelligible screaming and roaring. not even *close* to being called music. out of both disks, 30 songs, i ended up keeping about 19 because they were the only ones with words i could actually understand.

Totally useless,
By danull (United States) - See all my reviews

This CD is worthless. Copy protection makes it unusable for those of us who rip our CDs to disk to play on a media streamer (Squeezebox in my case).
What's even worse is that this CD doesn't contain the masters of horror main theme that plays during the start of each episode. Total fail.
