Biography

The blues has been a wellspring for rivers of pop, rock and R&B and there's nothing quite like returning to the source. In the mid-'60s, Chess Records released a series of legendary "best of" albums for Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Sonny Boy Williamson and Howlin' Wolf. Under each artist's name, The Real Folk Blues was issued in 1966 and a More Real Folk Blues in 1967 (though the latter album… Read more in Amazon's Howlin' Wolf Store

4.0 out of 5 stars Tremendous music, so-so compilation, December 22, 2004
This review is from: Masters (Audio CD)
Many of Howlin' Wolf's very best songs are here, but "Masters" is not as comprehensive, not as well compiled, and not nearly as attractively packaged as MCA/Chess' official Howlin' Wolf-collections "His Best", "His Best vol. 2", and "The Chess Box". And there are no rarities here either, or any other good reason why you should seek this one out instead of the MCA discs.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent compilation, January 17, 2001

This review is from: Masters (Audio CD)
In this great mix of Howlin' Wolf's work his influence on rock is evident. Like most blues, it is basic and honest and completely likeable. Howlin wolf is one of my favorite blues musicans and i recommend this album as a good introduction to his work or simply, blues in general.
