4.0 out of 5 stars Great album to drive too... at night :), September 4, 1999

This review is from: Masters of Misery: Black Sabbath Tribute (Audio CD)
Okay, I admit, when I first listened to it I was disappointed, but I kept it and stuck it on my CD shelf next to Nativity in Black and Eternal Masters. That was a few months ago--I just listened to it again while driving and I am much more impressed! This is a fun album when you are in the right mood and I don't mind the one techno track (Paranoid, Ultraviolence) and I really like the INTENSE black metal treatment given to "Who Are You?" by OLD and "The Wizard" by Scorn. Most of the other tracks are pretty straight forward Death Metal treatments, but Sabbath sounds good this way to my ears. Since I am a fan of the old/vintage Sabbath sound, I appreciate Brutal Truth's very heavy and straight forward kick ass take on "Lord of This World"--NICE AND HEAVY, and Cathedral does an awsome job of remaking Solitude very close to the original, which helps me appreciate the original song even more. Overall this is a cool album and I am now glad I own it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The ULTIMATE tribute to the ULTIMATE band, August 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Masters of Misery: Black Sabbath Tribute (Audio CD)
I cannot believe the narrow minded reviews I have just read for this album, so I thought I better have my say. Yes, the songs are different to a straight up cover version. Get over it. Sabbath pioneered so many new and innovative sounds, why can't anyone else? I think it is the ultimate mark of respect that so many bands (Yes, even techno) were influenced so much, and here is how they show it. Look out for the Godflesh cover of 'Zero the Hero' (the only non-ozzy cover on the album), 'Who are you' by OLD and 'The Wizard' by Scorn. If you like a bit of extremity and dig the old Black Sabbath, put away Nativity in Black and listen to this.

3.0 out of 5 stars to much industrial, July 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Masters of Misery: Black Sabbath Tribute (Audio CD)
This is not an album for the average Sabbath fan. It is much more industrial and death metalish than most. Although Cathedrals Wheels of Confusion is a good cover. A really heavy version but still maintains integrity. Anal C**ts version of "killing yourself to live" might be one of the only songs i have ever listend to and not undrestood despite knowing all the lyrics.
