4.0 out of 5 stars Great album to drive too... at night :)
Okay, I admit, when I first listened to it I was disappointed, but I kept it and stuck it on my CD shelf next to Nativity in Black and Eternal Masters. That was a few months ago--I just listened to it again while driving and I am much more impressed! This is a fun album when you are in the right mood and I don't mind the one techno track (Paranoid, Ultraviolence) and I...

3.0 out of 5 stars to much industrial
This is not an album for the average Sabbath fan. It is much more industrial and death metalish than most. Although Cathedrals Wheels of Confusion is a good cover. A really heavy version but still maintains integrity. Anal C**ts version of "killing yourself to live" might be one of the only songs i have ever listend to and not undrestood despite knowing all...

Okay, I admit, when I first listened to it I was disappointed, but I kept it and stuck it on my CD shelf next to Nativity in Black and Eternal Masters. That was a few months ago--I just listened to it again while driving and I am much more impressed! This is a fun album when you are in the right mood and I don't mind the one techno track (Paranoid, Ultraviolence) and I really like the INTENSE black metal treatment given to "Who Are You?" by OLD and "The Wizard" by Scorn. Most of the other tracks are pretty straight forward Death Metal treatments, but Sabbath sounds good this way to my ears. Since I am a fan of the old/vintage Sabbath sound, I appreciate Brutal Truth's very heavy and straight forward kick ass take on "Lord of This World"--NICE AND HEAVY, and Cathedral does an awsome job of remaking Solitude very close to the original, which helps me appreciate the original song even more. Overall this is a cool album and I am now glad I own it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The ULTIMATE tribute to the ULTIMATE band, August 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Masters of Misery: Black Sabbath Tribute (Audio CD)
I cannot believe the narrow minded reviews I have just read for this album, so I thought I better have my say. Yes, the songs are different to a straight up cover version. Get over it. Sabbath pioneered so many new and innovative sounds, why can't anyone else? I think it is the ultimate mark of respect that so many bands (Yes, even techno) were influenced so much, and here is how they show it. Look out for the Godflesh cover of 'Zero the Hero' (the only non-ozzy cover on the album), 'Who are you' by OLD and 'The Wizard' by Scorn. If you like a bit of extremity and dig the old Black Sabbath, put away Nativity in Black and listen to this.

3.0 out of 5 stars a case of poor production and a matter of taste, May 2, 2009
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Masters of Misery (Audio CD)
cathedral has 2 excellent cover but the production of the whole cd has a very bad sound.many of the other cover fall to the bands bad choice of dieluting the orginal song structure and useing massive technology to spruce up their lame attempts.knowing this is earache and they put out deathmetal/gringcore and doom I can't complain about the vocals brual truth and sleep due great covers here but the rest the vox are seriously bad

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good but, April 22, 2005

the Sleep cover is not recorded in stereo and shabby. The Brutal Truth cover of Lord Of This World is wicked, along with a fantastic Pitchshifter version of N.I.B.
For a heavier more true metal comp of Sabbath covers get either Nativity In Black CDs. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much better than the Corporate N.I.B. comp., June 16, 2003
By A Customer
If you don't like Grind/Death metal then you won't like this but if you do then this is the album for you. The best thing about this album is the choice of some more obscure Sabbath tracks like
Zero The Hero and Lord Of This World.

3.0 out of 5 stars Takes some getting used to, but..., December 16, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Masters of Misery: Black Sabbath Tribute (Audio CD)
This is actually a fairly decent album if you can give it a chance. Cathedral puts in a powerhouse preformance on two tracks, "Wheels of Confusion" and "Solitude". Other tracks that impressed me were "Snowblind" by Sleep and "Zero the Hero" by Godflesh. There is also a very interesting techno version of "Paranoid" by Ultraviolence. Not sure if I like it or not. The downside is that there is some pretty heavy death metal on this one that may take some getting used to. Overall I still think this album was worth my money.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not very good., February 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Masters of Misery: Black Sabbath Tribute (Audio CD)
This is not what you would expect from a sabbath tribute. It's more industral or techo tahn what sabbath would play. This would only be for a ture Sabbath fan and even then it would not come close to Navity in Black. But if you're look for a Sabbath cd with a tist this for you.
