Adolescent romantic/sexual fantasy,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Master's Thief (Kindle Edition)
This is a faithful, irony-free transcription of the sort of sexual fantasy one often sees parodied, or at least made a bit more emotionally complex, in these postmodern, metatextual days. Jamilah's all "Master, forgive me for my crime!" and Zahir's all "hah, I caught you, and now I shall 'punish' you by having sex with you while you are totally helpless to resist and are kind of making a token resistance but we both know this is really what you want isn't it my little desert flower." Kind of seventeenth-century as exotic sexual fantasies go, but whatever floats your boat. It's written in fairly grammatical English, though the highfalutin' Arabian-played-by-Anne-Baxter-speak ("Daughter of your most humble servant") doesn't always mesh well with random bits of modern slang and sex talk.

A little bit of dominance and a little bit of sex. A very quick read (15-20 minutes). Hey - but what do you expect for free?

Good thing this was a Kindle freebie! This short is of the "Arabian nights" type, which seems to have been popularized by the first "Mummy" movie and Disney's "Aladdin." The characters are stereotyped and awkward. The erotic scenes aren't particularly steamy. The premise is ridiculous - if the prince had wanted the destitute girl, he could have had her at any time. It doesn't make that much sense that he has been pining for her.

Maybe I missed something. While the story itself was pretty good (has potential for a novella), the idea of "call me master so I can make love to you" is just wierd. Was this romance or erotica? I'll give the author credit for trying but it didn't quite make it.

It was free, but not worth the investment of the 5-10 minutes it took to read it. No more than a summary of an already short story? Predominantly exposition. There are more intriguing passages on the backs of some book covers. Sex scene wasn't even worth keeping the text on my kindle. Used the experience to learn how to delete something from my relatively new kindle though. Bleh.

What I liked about this story was the wonderful descriptions of the world around the main female character. I loved the dominance aspect of the book. What let me down was the modern use of sex terms in what was described as long past Arabia. The other thing that let me down was the awfully quickie love scene, though wonderfully dominant.. for a virgin it would have been a bit much and she should have complained...she didn't...or he could have been gentler with her her first time and a second round of sex with lots of rough dominant would have been more believeable and fit with his feelings and attitude. Lots of promise though and would read another book by this author. There is talent here.

By the time I sat down to write the review, I realized I couldn't even remember what the story was about (I read the story only three days ago). I have refreshed my memory with the item description . . . but really, what else is there to say?

As short as this story was it was a quickie and as short and cute as it was it could be longer had potential to be longer and really good. Build up to their intimacy was good.

I wish I hadn't wasted the time to read this. I wouldn't even call this erotica and I was turned off.
