The lathe used to be a utilitarian tool only, but in the hands of today’s artists woodturning has undergone a beautiful transformation. This stunning international collection showcases the work of 40 pioneering woodturners who have expanded the possibilities of the medium. Their pieces range from classic to humorous to sculptural to amazing. Curator Jim Christiansen introduces each master’s multi-page gallery with an insightful overview, and the creators themselves offer their lyrical thoughts on wood, nature, and art.

I already own many of the similar books, photographic collections of turned wood art from the last 30 years, so I wasn't sure I needed this one. I was wrong. This book shows perhaps the BEST collection of them all. There is not a single clunker in the lot! EVERY work shown here is an inspiration to us who would like to do work as good.
I highly recommend this book to every woodturner who would like to do Art-level work, as well as to every collector or mere admirer, who appreciates the beauty that can be realized using that most ancient of all machines, the wood lathe, and a healthy imagination.

We bought this book for my sister in Law's 60th Birthday gift. She was completely enthralled with this book as she is an avid woodturner. When we saw it we were also in love with it. it is one of the most beautiful books to have on your coffee table and has inspired my sister in Law to further projects.

I love this collection of amazing works from truly amazing artists. Inspired to read it from my interest in the work of Timothy Ely and Brian Dettmer, I had no idea the number of talented artists using "books" as their creative medium. From start to finish, the varied techniques, formats and compositions make Masters a stunning visual experience you can't put down.
