5.0 out of 5 stars The Year's best Dance Mix/Compilation
I am a big MAW fan so it was with baited breath that I waited for this cd. I had heard about it during the summer and was constantly checking the locals for any signs. First let me say MAW can add another superlative to their resume. This is an outstanding project because Louie and Kenny obvisously respect the music of the West End catalogue. 3.0 out of 5 stars Mastermix???
I feel this 2 disc mix could've easily been cmpressed into 1 disc if they really wanted to strut their DJ stuff. The hype surrounding this one got to me too. West End!!! Masters At Work!!! Yo kidd, you gotta cop this one, classic, classic!!! And the intro? Why Cevin Fisher? Wouldn't it be cool for Mel himself to do a lil' narration on this joint!? OR how about no intro,...

This is not some tripped up fad gadget! It is up to the minute clubland music and would fit in superbly in any underground/deep house set. However, they have kept true to the original production and have added very subtle update touches to these classics. It's a winner from start to finish -- just put it on and let the music take you - whether you are an old garage head (like me) or a new jack weened on house you will find your place in this collection. Kudos guys!

5.0 out of 5 stars West End - the BEST END, June 17, 2002

The West End slogan of "Where the Sun Sets ... and the Stars Rise" has never been more true than with this mastermix set. MAW are the perfect choice to the anniversary mix. These guys are the REAL dynamic duo. They have once again remixed selected songs and maintained the songs' integrity and original feel. Favorite tracks include "Can't You Feel It", "Let's Go Dancin'", "Is It All Over My Face" and "All Night (I Can Do It Right)." Furthermore, the mastermix itself is excellent. This cd set is the perfect introduction of the foundations of House Music!

5.0 out of 5 stars Back to proper music with soul and class, December 21, 2001
This review is from: Masters At Work present West End Records: The 25th Anniversary Edition Mastermix (Audio CD)
Sometimes it's good to go back, back to a time when there was soul and depth to dance/club music. Retouched with perfection and mixed with love. If you like uplifting dance music with feeling, then this is for you. A history of one of the most influential labels that has affected the shape of current club and dance hits. If you want one album to lift your spirits then this is for you. Enjoy the Dance!

This CD is FLAWLESS!!! The remixes are amazing, the track selection is divine, the overall effect is mindblowing. This is one of the best compilations I have ever listened to. You should check out Mel Cherin's book too...there is a lot of interesting info about West End, The Garage, Larry Levan etc.

...Got me love dancin'

5.0 out of 5 stars go buy the vinyl, April 30, 2003
This review is from: Masters At Work present West End Records: The 25th Anniversary Edition Mastermix (Audio CD)
I was the mastering engineer alongside Herb Powers Jr. a well respected mastering engineer in the music business. If people have a problem with the mix cd they should go buy the vinyl and do their own mix.. It is available and sounds great. After all the original recordings were released on vinyl only, and I should know, I did the vinyl for the remastered versions.

Didn't like it at all. Severely disappointed.

As a side note, it is premixed for all you DJs out there, but save your money and invest in 'Soma: Seven'.

They have a little note on the back cover of the CD about not uploading their music to the internet so they can continue to make this music. If that is the case I should share everything just out of spite for swindling me out of my money. As it was it wasn't even worth my time to get it on my hard drive.

5.0 out of 5 stars MASTERS AT WORK'S~Work Of Art, February 21, 2002

I have been a fan of Masters At Work since forever and will buy ANYTHING they put out. I am also a fan of classics and I love the WESTEND songs. This CD is just as I said...a work of art put simply as that! I like when someone remixes a classic without taking away the original elements. The MASTERS AT WORK do just that. If you seriously liked the westend sound back in the day, you seriously won't be disappointed. You simply must purchase this CD. HUGE shouts to my favorite house artists and remixers...put simply:THE MASTERS AT WORK!You've done it again! Bravo!
