Similar in format and tone, each book briefly describes the lives of the lawmen and their families. The violence of the times is handled realistically. Both men are portrayed as energetic, hearty individuals who led eventful and varied lives. Black-and-white photographs, reproductions, and sketches enhance the texts and add to the flavor of the setting and the period.
