Sickest Mexican Grind You Will Ever Find,
By
This review is from: Matando Gueros (Audio CD)
This was when Brujeria could grind, and grind they did. The sound of Brujeria on Matando Gueros kinda reminds of older Napalm Death from their grind era, which means fast, brutal, and short bursts of noise behind indecipherable vocals. The music is well done, and the lyrics while not very insightful when translated into English are just hilarious. Anyone into older, raw grind should pick this up but just avoid their new albums. Favorite tracks = Leyes Narcos, Matando Gueros, Sacrificio, Seis Seis Seis.

First of all let me say Brujeria is a kick [tail] Band, and While there Facade of Devil Worshiping Mexican drug smugglers is a joke, but What Juan Brujo is singing about here is more then gore obssesed metal, pure evil I would say,and I think he means it too,I don't get that feeling from other death metal or grindcore bands. This album here was a little disappointing to me after hearing Raza Odija and Brujerizmo I was expecting more of the same Harsh in yer face death metal, but instead got poor audio and short songs that never really got a chance to get going, but that being said it is still a good album, the standout tracks are "Molestando Ninos Muertos",Narcos-Satanicos and the Title track "Mantando Gueros",If yer going to check out Brujeria then don't get this one first instead go for "Raza Odija" Or Brurizmo,or even the greatest hits package Mextremist, and to the other 3 star reviewers on here I suggest you check those out you probably won't be disapponited.Oh yeah the cover art is awesome it blows away anything Cannibal Corpse or Carcass ever done, don't get me wrong those are great bands,it's just Brujeria has the best cover art I've seen from a band, enough said goodbye and Longlive BABYLAND

Brujeria is not a technical death-metal band. Their stuff is rather simple, churning heaviness. So, do not compare it to Cryptopsy, for chrissakes! You either like it or you don't, and I definitely do. I am from Puerto Rico, so Spanish is actually mi first language. Hearing such low, guttural vocals sung in Spanish is definitely uncommon. But it is fun. I am used to hearing basically the same things from bands like Deicide or Acheron, but in Spanish, it's just hilarious. But, religious people, or older people take it way seriously. I once played it for my sister (24 years old) and she freaked out! She was actually scared and begged me to turn it off. Imagine my parents hearing it. They don't get it. They don't see the humor in it. Whatever. If you do, you'll have a great time. The music is really, really heavy. I have not tried to figure out any of it, but it sounds like some seriously detuned instruments, and there are several bassists, making it sound ridiculously low. Definitely unique in sound and in style, and so gross its actually funny.

BRUTAL,

The debut of this group out of Mexico proved only to be the start of something big, and this classic start will never be forgotten, brutality all the way through, and also lots of humorous comments throughout the CD in Spanish. I highly reccomend this CD to anyone who likes anything heavy.

Brutal, Heavy, And Raw With Surprisingly Good Musical Talent,

Starts out with a soundbite of a drug deal gone bad, a poor white guy trying to buy cocaine from a mean Mexican singer. The recording fades into the music and then the fun begins. This is not an album for wimps, or for people with weak stomachs. The album cover is a picture of someones severed head, open up the album jacket and find the rest of the body. Well, the music is every bit as brutal as the album jacket art, mostly fast drums with a alot of slow and very thick heavy chords. Blends in perfectly with the vocals, all of wich are in Spanish, a nice touch. If you like high quality death metal, buy this album and ALL of Brujeria's albums.

Stupidly primitive yet brilliantly executed,

Realistically, even before the true rumours began circulating, it should have been rather obvious that these guys weren't too serious. The most obvious is that they're on Roadrunner Records. The second is that some of the inlay is in English. If they hate America so much then why would they do that? And the third is that if they were drug runners then they'd have better things to do than make sloppy grindcore advertising that fact.
But doesn't stop the music being great fun to listen to. First up - the vocals. Spanish is a great sounding language to me, and one I wish I could speak (unfortunately I have my laziness and lack of ability to learn foreign languages to blame for my inability to do so). And his mean vocals just osund so damn good in Spanish. Next is the overall atmosphere of the album. It souds so dark and evil that you could almost believe, if only for a fleeting moment, that these guys really were who they claimed they were. If you're not familiar with grindcore then maybe the music won't do much for you. I wouldn't say this was straight up grindcore a la Pig Destroyer, Napalm Death, Nasum etc, but it is short heavy blasts of noise. The reason I say this is because if you're used to the tight, polished Fear Factory-esque sound of Brujerizmo then Matando Gueros may come off sounding a little too sloppy, raw and primitive. Personally, I actually prefer that - it matches the image much more so. If you're a fan of Brujerizmo, then don't expect this to sound like it. But if you fancy some loud, fast, sloppy extreme metal then Matando Gueros is the album for you.

A blistering onslaught from hell!!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Matando Gueros (Audio CD)
Brujeria is probably the best death metal band I have ever heard... and the whole thing is a big joke!!! This band is a side project to many great bands, including Fear Factory(Dino Cazerez on guitars and Raymond Hererra on drums), Faith No More(Billy Gould on bass),Napalm Death(Shane Embury on bass), Down By Law(Pat ???? on bass), and some guy named John that writes and sings all of the lyrics. All of the vocals are done in spanish, which make it to all of us non spanish speaking induviduals even more mysterious. If you like death metal and don't mind not knowing what John is saying(if you do mind, the lyrics are very easily found translated to english on any one of the many Brujeria web pages, though you will probably regret looking simply because the lyrics are quite disturbing, Ex.The title of the album, "Matando Gueros" translates to, "Killing Whiteboys") then pick up this album.
