5.0 out of 5 stars local
this book had particular interest to me since I live in the area. I could see myself at the locations in the story and "know" some of the characters in the book. I am pretty much a non-fiction reader so it was fun to lose myself in this mystery which I ran through in a few days. Certainly looking forward to the next installment.

1.0 out of 5 stars As long as you don't mind attempts at cute.
I've been to St. Augustine, and loved it. So I'm in accord with the rest of the reviewers. A great setting for a mystery. The descriptions of the place are great. However, I depart with every other reviewer currently here in how I feel about the overall quality of the story.

I found an overwhelming number of instances where the text is jarringly preposterous...

4.0 out of 5 stars An Intriguing Mystery, April 12, 2011

Although I don't normally read murder mysteries, Matanzas Bay kept me turning the pages. St. Augustine, with its unique history, beauty, and small town peculiarities, is the perfect backdrop for a cast of characters, each shaped to some degree by the past. Several of the scenes, especially those at the archeological dig, the Lighthouse, and the Alligator Farm, are so vividly written and imagined that I found them hard to dismiss from my mind.

Looking for a mystery that you can kick back and enjoy? That's Matanzas Bay. The story is set in Saint Augustine, Florida with the back drop of the nations oldest city. I enjoyed following Quint Mitchell. Quints friend is accused of murder and all the clues point to him. Quint sets out to help find the real murder and discovers a host of suspects. The story twists and turns enough to satisfy any mystery reader as Quint races to free his friend. I high Recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Matanzas Bay, September 18, 2011
This review is from: Matanzas Bay (Paperback)
I found Matanzas Bay to be a very well written and very a interest-holding book. The characters were well developed and colorful with undercurrents of relationships that kept me guessing till the very end. Although not necessary to be an area resident to enjoy the woven-in history of the Nation's Oldest City, it made my reading just a touch more enjoyable. I look forward to how much more trouble Quint will find himself facing in the next installment.

4.0 out of 5 stars thoroughly enjoyable murder mystery, September 17, 2011
This review is from: Matanzas Bay (Paperback)
This murder mystery kept me guessing until the very end. The characters are all intriguing - Quint Mitchell's dry sarcasm made me smile frequently. The setting in St Augustine and North Florida made it fun for a native of the area, but I think others would appreciate the locations as well. It even included a glimpse of the civil rights movement in this area. This was a thoroughly enjoyable read!

Great read, excellent characters, clever plot fooled me up until the last minute! I'm tired of the over sexed mysteries that can't develop decent plot lines. Looking forward to his next mystery!

5.0 out of 5 stars St. Augustine Setting is Very True to Life, August 17, 2011

It is enjoyable and rewarding to read Matanzas Bay, and recognize so many familiar sights and places. Author Parker Francis has really nailed down the quaint feel of the city, while also capturing the passion of the locals to maintain St. Augustine's historical background and authenticity.

So, the setting was well chosen and the various turns of the story itself kept me interested in the outcome. You will find yourself convinced that you have figured out "who dunnit", when Mr. Francis throws in another new and complicating twist to the story.

An entertaining and great mystery read...good to the last page!

5.0 out of 5 stars New Mystery Series Set in St. Augustine, August 14, 2011
This review is from: Matanzas Bay (Paperback)
Parker Francis (aka Victor DiGenti) has created a new PI character that is sure to please mystery readers, especially those who enjoy stories set in Florida. This first book in the series takes place in St. Augustine, which is an important 'character' in the book. Action abounds, and points of interest in the city and its environs are accurately portrayed. Quint Mitchell, the protagonist, succeeds in solving the mystery and saving his eccentric friend, the city archaeologist, from a false charge of murder. All the while, the reader is getting to know Mitchell (who was actually introduced in Victor DiGenti's second Windrusher novel, The Cave of Tho-hoth), and developing a relationship with him. It's a fun read and a satisfying tale that will definitely whet one's appetite for future books in this series. I know I am looking forward to the next Quint Mitchell escapade!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great page turner along the lines of Ellery Queen!, August 14, 2011

I love a good old-fashion murder mystery and this falls well into that category. To many times I thought I knew "who did it" only to be proven wrong. Even if you are not familiar with the area that the story takes place in, you can still be immersed in the story, the history and the characters that every town has and all of us know. I have been to St. Augustine many times and could clearly see the houses and the landmarks that are used in this book. If you are familiar with the city at all, you could swear that this was a "true mystery" story. The book held my interest from start to finish. Highly recommend it to any mystery story buff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really enjoyable read!, June 29, 2011

I read this book on Kindle over the course of probably two days...it was that good! The writing was excellent, and the story was captivating. I love mysteries and murder mysteries, and this one was right up there with my favorites. For anyone who has ever downloaded a self-published book and been disappointed with the quality of the writing and the layout, that will NOT be the case with this book. It would fit right in on the bookstore shelves next to Patricia Cornwell. I will definitely be reading the next Parker Francis offering!
