Who is Savannah Taylor really?

On the most special day of Savannah's life, her wedding day, the cops bust in and wrongfully arrest her at the altar for money laundering and tax evasion. Instead of a ring, Savannah leaves the church in handcuffs. She's soon released because she proves to the Feds that someone stole her identity-but her fiancé isn't as easily convinced, and hits the road.

Savannah's botched wedding was an awakening. She needed everything to fall apart to start anew-with a totally new attitude. Savannah takes off to find her identity thief--and maybe the answer to all her problems--in a wild journey of love, risk, and surprises.

MATCH GAME by Beverly Brandt
June 28, 2006

Rating: 3 Stars

MATCH GAME by Beverly Brandt is the story of Savannah Tyler, a woman who is nearly arrested for money laundering and tax evasion on her wedding day. The whole event is so traumatic for her fiancé, that he dumps her at the altar, and this causes Savannah to think she's not worthy enough to keep a man.

When she learns that someone had stolen her identity, she decides to hunt this person (Vanna) down and at the same time, aspires to be more like this mysterious Vanna who apparently has a much more fulfilling life, based on her credit card statements.

There's a lot of action in MATCH GAME. Savannah immediately moves to Florida in search of this mystery woman, starts job hunting, which leads her to a number of crazy stunts and laugh out loud scenes that the former Savannah Tyler would never dream of doing. For instance, Savannah interviews for a job at a restaurant, thinking that putting on a fish costume and enticing customers is part of the interview. This scene leads to a lot of laughs, and it also puts her in the eyes of good looking Mike, who she thinks is gay but isn't quite sure, since she continues to feel the chemistry between them.

My problem with MATCH GAME was the length of the novel. It went on a bit too long for this genre, a light-hearted romp akin to Chick Lit, but had no business being this long. I did enjoy the premise and appreciated the crazy plot line that prevailed throughout the book. I didn't quite buy into the ending scenes that involved the musician from Meat Loaf's band. It didn't quite ring true for me. However, overall MATCH GAME is a great beach read that did need a bit of editing to make it the perfect light-hearted romance with a bit of adventure in it.

4.0 out of 5 stars fine contemporary tale, October 4, 2005
This review is from: Match Game (Paperback)
In Maple Rapids, Michigan thirty-one years old CPA Savannah Taylor looks forward to marrying reliable bottom line Todd while working with walk in clients who come to Refund City, a national accounting firm that focuses on completing tax returns. On Valentine's Day, Reverend Black begins the wedding ceremony only to be interrupted by three FBI agents. Instead of a marriage ring, Savannah receives handcuffs as the Feds arrest her for tax evasion and money laundering.

Savannah proves to the Feds that she is innocent as someone obviously stole her identity. The rat Todd dumps her anyway because he feels she is not worth the time or trouble. Irate Savannah decides to change her image starting with confronting the person who caused her mess but also saved her from a death sentence with the brat rat. She heads to Naples, Florida where the purchases on her credit cards are posted from. Of course meeting US Air Marshal Mike Bryson seems worth reengineering herself.

MATCH GAME is a fine contemporary tale in which the tiny romantic subplot takes a coach seat to Savannah's coming of age quest to find herself and the thief. Readers will shake their heads at Todd's chutzpah as he breaks the engagement because he went through too much with her arrest, but still expects Savannah to do his taxes. Savannah is terrific as she tries to reinvent herself by quitting her job and seeking the thief while her family worries about her. The identify theft subplot augments a solid tale by showing how easy it is to steal and how much trouble swamps the victim. Beverly Brandt provides a fine mainstream story.

4.0 out of 5 stars The life and adventures of Savannah Taylor, March 15, 2007
This review is from: Match Game (Paperback)
Savannah Taylor had a normal (boring) life. She worked as an tax consultant in Minnisotta, had a long term relationship with her fience, and an apartment she had for the last six years.

The day of the wedding (Feb 14) turned her life around though. At first it seemed like nothing was going right; the flowers didnt match the dresses, the cake was frozen and so on. Then things started going really wrong-Savannah got arrested for money laundering and credit card fraud.

Luckally she managed to clear the misunderstanding up, but somebody had still stolen her identidy. That person lives in Napels, Florida. A few weeks later Savannah is off to Napels to make a change for herself and to find the person that had stolen her identedy.
