Two very stong characters, Ryan and Rachel, meet again at a ball to honor Ryan for his achievements in engineering design. this is to be the biggest night in Ryan's night - and there Rachel is bringing him back to all the things he seems to want to bury, his past, his family, his wife's death - why is he running so hard to escape all of these memories. And why is it only Rachel that can seem to infuriate him and send him into a lustful rage at the same time. Rachel who just turned 29 is trying to come to grips with what she truly wants out of life. Mostly, she says she wants recognition in a mans world for her engineering accomplishments in the D & B company but in reality hidden beneath is her underlying love of Ryan which seems to gone unrecognized for all these years. However things immediately heat up when they meet on the terrace and it is sizzle instantly - going back and forth between angry words and passion. Both so strong willed it is amazing that they are able to recognize what is truly between them. Ryan seems to be at the point in his life where all this recognition and the ruthless takeovers are leaving him empty. He is about to marry some heiress which he could absolutely care less about all in the name of aquisiton and merger. Rachel is so afraid of getting her heart broken again she keeps puting up barriers after their passion explodes. Amazingly Ryan's family seems to be conspiring to get these two together as the good brother and priest handfasts them into wedded bliss (have no idea of this is historicaly accurate) but it sure made for a great plot. Rachel, even after she truly realizes her love for Ryan is so afraid she will destroy him with her past indistrections. In many ways this plot is more like a contemporary than a historical - which is the only reason I did not give it 5 stars. To see this couple begin to come together was so romantic - I loved it when Ryan decides to court her and sends her the very romantic gift of engeneering tools (and she knew how much this meant because he never wanted to share as a child and these were his tools) that was so different and so special. He fights hard for her, and eventually decides that everything in his life is not worth loosing the love of his life. Well written, truly a deeply moving and romantic book!

I couldn't wait to write this review; I almost did it before I finished the book, because I was just that impressed with the writing style of the author, Thomas! She created a world that I could easily see in my mind's eye, and find credible. Rachel and Ryan were vivid characters, and I loved the way she wove the textures of their personalities together. I appreciated to no end, a smart, sassy, heroine, who had been knocked down by tragedy, but came up swinging. She was refreshing, and as modern as she could be in that era. As for Ryan, could he be any sexier? He was a man's man, and a woman's dream, flaws and all.

If one had not noticed, I loved this story, and dare I say, its suspense. Buy it; borrow it; read it and most of all, enjoy it!

I purchased this ebook on the recommendation of a fellow romance novel junkie and I was not disappointed. This novel had all the elements that I love in good romance novel; a strong hero, a stronger heroine, action and lots of romance. In all, a good read!

Interesting story with a sensual steamy relationship between Rachel and Ryan. I really liked that Rachel was an independent woman for the Times and fought to maintain her place in the business world.

Ms. Thomas has created a very unique romance with her story "A Match Made in Scandal." Her characterization is not what you normally find in historical reads and as a result she offers a fresh new approach to a genre that needs "fresh air."

Ryan Donally has finally after a lifetime of trying to achieve success and done so. This Irishman has finally reached the wealth and acceptance that he has wanted. The fact that he has had to loose a great deal along the way only makes it that much sweeter. He is celebrating a major achievement when "she" walks in. The only female that he has always desired...but could never has. Why has Rachel left Ireland, and more importantly why is she there? The answer might just surprise him...if he's willing to listen.

Rachel is not your average miss...by a long shot. She has quiet the educational background in engineering and design. She wants to leave her mark on the industry and in order to do so much get Ryan's approval. That will be easier said than done. They share a past and it's a rather rocky one. She owes this man much but he's not interested in what she has to say four years too late. But, Rachel gets what Rachel wants and she wants Ryan. The rowdy boy of childhood has become a very handsome and intriguing man and she will do all that she can to make him listen...really listen to her. But will Ryan accept her heart or will he let old hurts, and new drive get in his way?

Ryan and Rachel were amazingly entertaining characters. I loved the chemistry between these two! They grew up as children together so there was all of that added tension between them that truly adds to this romance. Ms. Thomas is an author that truly entertains and one that should be added to your "must read" list.

I have to admit I got very tired of that saying!

This is a very well written book. It stirred my imagination. I liked all the characters. I loved all of the brothers. I liked the fact that they all knew Rachel for most of her life.

One point that I thought was odd . . Rachel was very uncomfortable around kids, the next thing I knew, the children all love her whenever she returns home on the train. That bugged me, seemed way out of character.

But, again the book really held my interest and I liked it. I enjoyed the fact that she was smart & headstrong. I also liked that he wanted her & was willing to work at making the relationship work.

All in all, a really good book.
