2.0 out of 5 stars Stop at book two
This one was slightly more painful than the other two. The dialogue was stilted and I found myself skimming. We have all lived wedding planning and I have no need to plan the minutia of someone else's wedding. I found this one too obvious with none of the tension of the first book. Also, the author didn't really make us feel the chemistry very well between the couple...

4.0 out of 5 stars A satisfactory ending to the series, December 26, 2008
This review is from: Match Point (Lauren Holbrook Series, Book 3) (Paperback)
Review by Gigi Hoffman

Match Point, the third and final book in the Lauren Holbrook Novel series by Erynn Mangum, is a satisfactory ending to the series.

Laurie's matchmaking skills have paid off--four of the couples she's matched are now married, and it's just time before another couple gets engaged. With all her friends married and her singles' Bible study basically the couples' Bible study now, there's no one left to matchmake. What's a girl supposed to do?

While Laurie is trying to find others to play Cupid with, the friends she's matched turn on her, and play matchmaker with her and her boyfriend, Ryan. Laurie's not sure how she feels about that. One matchmaker is enough, and she's already got that role filled. To get away from the constant discussions and pressuring toward marriage, Laurie and Ryan pull a fake break-up. It's a great plan until Laurie realizes one very important thing--she's in love.

This book wraps up everything in the series. Some parts seem to drag a little, but it's got the same fun parts like the previous novels--coffee, chocolate, and chick-flick quotes. If you've read the previous two books, the third one is a must.

4.0 out of 5 stars Satisfying Conclusion, January 11, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
In this third and final book, Laurie's relationship with Ryan changes. He goes from being her boyfriend for the last year and a half to... possibly something more? For once, she's on the receiving end of match-making schemes from her now happily married friends that she matched. In the process, she really starts to grow up. Sort of. As much as Lauren Holbrook will ever grow up.

The romance in this third book is light and sweet. Again, the dialog is fun and zany, setting a fast pace for the book.

I was very satisfied with the conclusion of the series and thought this was the best one. Looking forward to reading more Erynn Magnum.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!!, September 14, 2011

Match Point by Erynn Mangum was fantastic. I laughed so hard when Laurie's father got back from his honeymoon and was even more a germaphobe and health nut. You couldn't help but laugh. My only complaint was that it ended. Could you imagine Laurie pregnant and to not be able to drink coffee - run Ryan!! It would be hilarious. I can only hope!

5.0 out of 5 stars Light hearted fun read, August 10, 2011

This, finally for those who have already read the first two books in the series Miss Match (Lauren Holbrook Series, Book 1) and Rematch (Lauren Holbrook Series, Book 2), is the story of Laurie and Ryan. Laurie's part-time day job is taking photographs at the studio of her life-long best friend Brandon and his new wife Hannah. Ryan works in construction building and remodeling houses. The story picks up with her Dad and Joan already married and the marriage of Brandon and Hannah having recently taken place after a one year engagement. This story revolves around the matchmaker, Laurie, finally going to the altar. There are some unpredictable events thrown in to keep life interesting and provide laugh-out-loud moments. There are less Jane Austen references entwined in the story but there is an Elvis reference incorporated by the end of the story. Christ still shines through with scriptural references and through the life of the characters. If you are looking for a light hearted, fun, quick read you will enjoy this book. A note for Kindle readers this book is better formatted and includes a table of contents, unlike the first two books in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars All about Laurie, June 26, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
So when I was first looking at this author (and this series in particular) I almost read this book 1st. Reason: It was SO much cheaper than the other books!! And i'm just cheap, plain and simple.

But I'm so glad I didn't. So glad I started with the 1st one and read them in order. I'm sure these are great stand alone books but much much better as a series. You love Laurie and Ryan so much by this third book that you're absolutely dying to know what happens.

So you know when you're reading a contemporary romance and all the dialogue is perfect (and completely unrealistic) between the 2 main characters? Not so here. And I actually loved that about it! I could relate so so closely to Laurie! "Love" didn't feel like what I thought it would. And my boyfriend (now husband) definitely wasn't romantic like I thought he would be. But it was still beautiful. Still honored God. And I enjoyed that the love story here was so real and "common."

Something else I loved about the book~ You got every juicy detail you wish you got in every other book. Don't you hate when you're reading a book, and finally, FINALLY at the end the couple reveals to one another that they love each other, and SMACK- The End. Sometimes you get a tiny little Epilogue but otherwise. Nada. You gruel through 400 pages to get one smile at the end and that's it. It's like looking at a gigantic birthday cake and being told you can only eat one sprinkle of it. This book is how I wish all books were. There's MORE! I felt so satisfied at the end. I mean, of course I fell in love with all the characters so I'd LOVE to read more books about all of them, but even without ever hearing more, Mangum wrote the book so well that you can already feel what beautiful things were ahead for the characters.
Reading this was like getting the gigantic birthday cake all for yourself. Al a mode. With a venti cup of coffee. ;-)

Definite must read in this series!

Lastly, the author has obviously never bought a home or she would know you can't close on a house within days of bidding on it. Overall it was a C- for me

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Ending, January 2, 2011
This review is from: Match Point (Lauren Holbrook Series, Book 3) (Paperback)
By the time this series ended, I felt like I was a part of Laurie's circle of friends. She's learned a lot about God throughout the books and I enjoyed learning with her.
