5.0 out of 5 stars A HAUNTING MATCHBOX PLAYSET
I have a 2 1/2 year old who is just a nut about anything scary. He loves Halloween, ghosts, pumpkins, skeletons, bats...it's amazing. He's not the least bit scared. When my wife and I saw this matchbox set discounted at a toys-r-us before Christmas we knew he'd love it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Spookhouse Fun
This is a clever idea by Matchbox, linking the love of cars and a spooky atmosphere. The house and the van that comes with this playset reminds me of Scooby-Doo. We bought this for our daughter who is a huge Scooby fan. Yes, it does have some frustrating elements to it, like the upside down car and getting stuck, but kids still enjoy it. My kids use it as an action figure...

5.0 out of 5 stars A HAUNTING MATCHBOX PLAYSET, February 14, 2005

I have a 2 1/2 year old who is just a nut about anything scary. He loves Halloween, ghosts, pumpkins, skeletons, bats...it's amazing. He's not the least bit scared. When my wife and I saw this matchbox set discounted at a toys-r-us before Christmas we knew he'd love it.

This is part of Matchbox's Hero City line and features a neat haunted house set-up as a car is elevated to the top, travels across a bridge held by a skeletal hand, then rotates inside the house and down a platform, then pivots and travels along it's way with a helpful shove from a ghost, all with spooky sounds playing. My son just loves it. It's eay to assemble and the only problem I found is that when it has to rotate in the upper room of the house, the mechanism sometimes becomes jammed but it's easily corrected.

A fun toy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Spooky fun for your matchbox fan!, October 3, 2005

I am not a fan of these car play sets. As a parent, they are so frustrating! The cheap plastic that is impossible to keep together needs constant parental attention throughout the play period. This often leads to the children being frustrated and the attending parent vowing to never purchase another! BUT...my 7 year old LOVES these toys. He plays with them constantly. This one in particular is one of his favorites.

The set-up is simple and it doesn't require much parental intervention. It has proven to be better quality than the typical set. I like the fact that there are not hundreds of pieces of track to assemble, and also that it is not a monstrosity that needs sit assembled in my parlor for months on end collecting dust. When play time is finished, it fits neatly in the window seat until next time.

The spooky theme is catchy and always prompts many imaginary situations for Nicholas' cars to find themeselves.

Not such a great toy in terms of quality but well worth the money for the play time it receives.

If your child loves "spooky" themes, this is perfect and will draw his/her attention on a regular basis.

4.0 out of 5 stars A gift received for a 5 and 2 year old, October 15, 2004
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars

My 5 and 2 year old boys received this as a gift for their birthday. We did not realize that it needed batteries and the boys had a blast playing with it before we knew it had sounds.

The car does get stuck before heading down the stairs.

My 2 year old does have some difficulty playing due to dexterity and age. My 5 year old has no problem with this toy and loves the sounds along with my 2 year old.

Matchbox toys hold up SO much better than HotWheels !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Destined To Become A Classic, February 18, 2005

I'm a "Grown-Up" Toy and Game Enthusiast, and I can tell You with much confidence that this Playset is Destined to Become a Classic. It's simple, yet complex enough to keep anybody's attention... both Young and Old. It's made of the durable kind of plastic, not the cheap stuff that tends to crack or break if You sneeze too hard. The sound effects are right on target... not too loud, not too soft, and definitely not distorted. Some assembly is required, but it's very minimal and not a big deal... the only Hard part is unattaching it from the inside of the box... so take Your time with that part, as to not accidentally damage anything. Bottom line, this Playset is definitely worth Your hard earned Pasos. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars My 4 year old loves this toy!, November 23, 2004

We purchased this toy for my 4 year old son for his birthday and it is his favorite toy. He loves playing with cars so this toy was perfect for him. He will play with this and the play mat that goes with it by himself for an hour. Unlike other car playsets this one has not fallen apart with tough use. It makes scary noises and you can even turn off the sound if you need to! Some times the cars do get stuck in the toy, but if you use the car that came with the haunted house it usually doesn't get stuck. You can use other cars, you just have to try them out if they will get stuck or not. It also came with a great playmat.

My son got this as a birthday present and loves it! He likes the spooky sounds that play as the car goes through, and I like how preoccupied it kept him. It comes with a great mat where you can add other sets, which is exactly what we plan on doing. Great toy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for the Scooby Doo fans!, May 2, 2004

My 3 year old is a big Scooby Doo fan and just had to have the Matchbox Haunted House. He loves it. It is sturdy and easy for him to play with. The only complaint I would have is when the van goes down the staircase it tends to sometimes get stuck or come down on it's side. This doesn't seem to bother my 3 year old, but it may bother a child who is a bit older. Overall I think it is a pretty good toy.

This is so cool. Make sure that you put the batteries in on the bottom of the toy so that you can hear the sound effects. I love the movie that comes with it! The song is really awesome and it is a good quality nice movie. I like how the movie goes with the haunted house. The car sometimes gets stuck but it is easy to get it out. I have played with it for hours and I like the movie too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Got Stuck, November 21, 2004

Overall my child has a lot of fun with this toy... to the point where he drags it around the house with him. The only problem with it is that light-weight cars and Hot Wheels get stuck. They do not have enough weight to turn one of the rooms completely and get wedged between walls or do not slide down the ramp well, getting themselves stuck in places big people hands do not fit. We had to sift through all of his cars and find the ones that work and now have to keep them separate.
