#3 in Top Rated Contemporary Romances (based on amazon reader reviews)
#17 in Top Rated Romance

Clean story telling. Crisp dialog. Lovely character sketching. Interesting ideas on relationships and a perfectly executed romance with a twist at the end that tied it all up in a big red bow with hearts on it.  (Nathan L., amazon.com)

at least i had the sense to put down the coffee cup while reading. otherwise i'd be ordering a new netbook. sip between chapters, people.   (seedlady, amazon.com)

.. what can I say?

I never read out of my genre. I never read shorts. I hate stories that end just about the time I get into them.

So, why did I hit the "buy" button as soon as I got to the end of the sample?

I fell in love.

Yeah. Sappy, but true.

Mick's adorable. A little dense but brilliant. She has a collection of friends that I envied and, secretly, I hoped she'd pick me as her match.

Ok, it's fiction, right? You're allowed to make up stories in fiction and this one sucked me in -- hook, line, and guppy tank.

Clean story telling. Crisp dialog. Lovely character sketching. Interesting ideas on relationships and a perfectly executed romance with a twist at the end that tied it all up in a big red bow with hearts on it.

What? I'm a guy so I can't be a romantic?

Puh-lease.

Thanks, Debora. Great read.

Let's face it: even at $.99, some stories are overpriced. This definitely isn't one of them. I borrowed this one, and will buy my own copy once I'm done with this review. Matchmakers 2.0 is a sweet novelette (novella?) with likeable characters. (I'd say it's less a romance and more women's fiction, for those that make the distinction.)

My chief complaint with the story is that there's no plot to speak of. Mick's friends want her to date, so she does which leads her to meeting a nice guy. The story ends abruptly - once Mick recognizes that she likes him, there's nothing more to be resolved. It's to Geary's credit that she had the confidence to keep the scale of the story manageable by not devising a larger plot beyond the boy-meets-girl. That might have overwhelmed some of the charm she displays so amply here.

This is the first in the promised series of "Novel Nibbles" by Debora Geary. It will take you an hour or two to read it - I guess it males it a novella, technically.

Genre-wise, this is your typical unpretentious humorous romance, only perfectly executed. We follow romantic troubles and their resolution of a central character, with two or three secondary ones (a best friend, two colleagues, and, eventually, a love interest, obviously), a bit of slightly unconventional office politics, and little more. The plot is mostly linear and follows what can be expected of the genre canon - no many surprises, but still plenty of original execution, and the setting is pretty unusual. In less than 1000 locations there is no room for some great character development, just an occasional quick sketch, and we will see at least one usual stereotype (a computer geek), but even he gets to move a bit outside of the "standard" confines.

This work will not cause belly laughs, but smiles and chuckles are plentiful. The language is unpretentious but clear and expressive - a joy to read.

I did not catch a single occasion where I would yell "Editor!", whether because of a plot hole, ungainly formulation, mere spelling error or formatting technicality. Indeed, even the usual cause of my harping - chapter marks - are there! This is really done professionally.

So, the rating? Well, I reserve five stars for works that keep me thinking for days, and to which I return over and over. "Matchmakers 2.0" does not attempt to fall into this category. OTOH, works that show some promise but require *lots* of polishing get three stars. (I wish rating resolution were finer.) So, here you have it: a rather glowing four-star review.

Stories like this are the reason the Kindle is so neat! PreKindle I would have never had the chance to read this author's work, and I would have missed a really enjoyable couple hours.

This story is, as advertised, shorter than a full length novel. It is perfect for a bleak, cold winter afternoon.

The author did a very good job of editing the story, I noticed no errors or problems. I do not expect $.99 stories to be professionally edited, but this one is very well done.

The story line moved very well, and the characters were developed very nicely.

Debora Geary has made my personal list of authors that I will buy any work they publish.

Thank you for a good story!

I love characters who are smart, witty and self-deprecating, and that describes Mick, the protagonist in this delightful, smile-inducing novella. Her co-workers on the match team of the online dating service she works for are also interesting people you want to root for, as is her best friend, Jazie. Given the relative brevity of the story, the author does a remarkable job of fleshing out the characters and giving them vivid personalities.

The dialogue is snappy, lively and believable. I would enjoy engaging in a conversation with these clever characters. In fact, I think this setting and these characters would make a great premise for a TV series.

This book was also impeccably edited, and I liked the "quick read" format. I really look forward to a sequel.

To start...this book was gifted to me though I am in no way a friend or even an acquaintance of this author (gotta love the Amazon community discussion boards :)

That said, I would buy this book in a heartbeat. I will definitely buy future Debora Geary books.
If you like romantic and sweetly funny stories, this one is for you! Mick (Michaela) and Sam are a great couple. Smart and funny with well thought out attitudes and responses. All characters including the secondary ones are interesting quirky people that I would like to know. Very likeable, all of them. The story is short but well filled in without anything vital missing.
The only even slightly negative thing that I could say is a matter of personal preference. I usually like a little more sex and danger in my fiction and there is no sex or danger at all in the book though sex is (lightly) discussed. This did not stop me from enjoying Matchmakers 2.0 and I expect to enjoy any future 'nibble' Debora writes!
I really liked this very well crafted story and will follow this author in the future.
