Factual evidence with a fictional flair., August 17, 2008
This review is from: Material Evidence (Paperback)
The facts of this historic event, the resurrection of Christ, are brought to life by the ability of the author to incorporate fictional characters to conduct an investigation and reveal their findings. The author utilizes his investigative background and expertise to provide an investigation with regard to the missing body of Christ. It is completed in a way that keeps the reader interested even though they may be aware of the results. I felt as though I was living the experience, of the fictional characters, due to the well written verbal interaction and descriptive narrative. Material Evidence is a must read for Christians and anyone who enjoys a good mystery that is based on historic fact.

Just the facts..., December 2, 2008
This review is from: Material Evidence (Paperback)
What do you do when an embarrassing crime threatens your political standing? Try a Chappaquiddick-style explanation of innocence? Embark on a Watergate-style cover-up? Adopt a Clintonesque twisting of verbs? Or do you send out your own top investigative people to get to the bottom of things?
Pontius Pilate, Roman governor of Judea chooses the latter, higher path in Jack Trombetta's fictional-historical account of the most famous event in all of Western history--the alleged resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth.
In sending out two of his best soldiers, Marcus and Anthony, Pilate hopes to find the simple answer to two separate, complex questions--who would steal a corpse; and why? Marcus, the stern veteran and expert on Jewish custom, along with Anthony, his younger, more emotional partner, start with a simple premise: the body was stolen by persons unknown.
These two rational, logical military men attempt to follow the trail of material evidence to a rational, logical conclusion. Which, inevitably, they do--meeting along the way, some of history's most esoteric and renowned individuals.
The plot is unique, with a mingling of police procedural, spiritual uncertainty, personal growth, and an increasingly constant shifting of conviction and principal, which eventually puts the two examiners at odds--both personal and professional.
All in all, Material Evidence is an interesting little read, whether you're a believer, or a skeptic. Above all else, the novel makes you think. And what more could you ask of any book?
