"Material Girl" from Madonna's 1984 "Like a Virgin" album has always been one of my favorite songs by Madonna. When "Material Girl" was first released, radio stations played it all the time--and why not? After all, it was the 1980s, the decade of "Me! Me! Me!" with people embracing beliefs that "If You've Got It, Flaunt It" and "You Can Have it All!" Materialism was at a new high as people rushed to scoop up designer blue jeans and other designer clothing. And that's the great part about "Material Girl;" the lyrics to it are just so true when it comes to the `80s.
Madonna sings this really well; even though it has a distinctly `80s sound to it the beat and the lyrics remain quite catchy today. And the lyrics remain so true; don't we all at least secretly want tons of expensive material goods to make us feel privileged, pampered and special?
I highly recommend this tune for Madonna fans if they don't have it already (younger fans might not have this yet) and anyone just getting into Madonna will love this tune. "Material Girl" is one of Madonna's best songs ever; just one listen will tell you why! I'll always love this song!
