it came as they said, good delivery time and no damages. As for content... the school decides what we read, so I'll leave it at that.

ugh... I'm burning it once the semester's over.,
This review is from: Maternal-Child Nursing, 3e (Hardcover)
It's redundant. The book seriously covers the same information over and over again, but in 5 chapter chunks or so. It's vague and general. When looking for page numbers of information in the back of the book I'd find the page reference and I'd turn to the page where it said, "see chapter 17," then I'd have to spend 25 minutes wading through chapter 17 (or whatever) trying to find the information I need... only to find a paragraph that barely skimmed the information I was looking for. In 200+ credits (who can remember at this point?) of higher education and 2 degrees I've had the pleasure of going through and working with dozens of textbooks, this one is by far the worst. It's a classic case of quantity taking precedence over quality. As far as I'm concerned it's 1500 plus pages of kindling.

Not much to say since it is a required text at my nursing school. I bought this new and it came in perfect condition still sealed. It does NOT come with "evolve"; however, it does come with a CD that has some practice questions on it. I found the study guide book that goes along with this text INCREDIBLY helpful. Definitely spend the extra $20.

Poorly organized, vague, dated information,
This review is from: Maternal-Child Nursing, 3e (Hardcover)
Had to use this book for a nursing class. It's very poorly organized, requiring you to jump around from chapter to chapter if you want to read about some topics completely. The index isn't very helpful and there is no glossary. There are no review questions at the end of the chapters, just a wall of text of "key concepts". The material is not presented in an eye-catching or concise manner. Graphs/charts/tables of need-to-know facts and comparisons are lacking. The CD has review questions that are helpful but there are only about 10 per chapter. The study guide (separate book) has more questions, but they are often repetitive of the CD's questions. The study guide has no rationales, while the CD does. There are no in-text citations, just a long list of references at the end of the chapter, so if you'd like to read more about something mentioned in a chapter, good luck sifting through a 100+ entries reference list. Some of the material seems really outdated, and there is no mention of very common treatments/procedures that students will see used frequently at the hospital. This book and accompanying materials need a lot of improvement. I know most people buying this book are students and have no choice, but if you are an instructor, please consider another text for your class. If you are looking for a Peds/OB text to brush up/expand your nursing knowledge, definitely do not buy this.

This book is a really great reference. The one that I bought came with the CD-ROM, which is also a great study tool. The evolve resources that go with the textbook are handy as well. The ONE bad thing about this book is that there is no glossary.

Chock full of information,

This textbook has so much information in it, it is overwhelming. The order in which information is presented is not always linear, for example, begining with primary prevention of children then going into antepartum. I suppose it doesnt really matter since if its required for your course you should buy it anyway. Just know that review books such as HESI and Saunders have their information better organized.

This is one of the worst textbooks I have ever used. I cannot understand how it received the 5 stars that it has. The material is very poorly organized, explained very superficially, and its tissue-thin paper with miniscule type make it unappealing for readers. When looking for a specific piece of information in the index, the reader is referred to 5 or 6 different locations and still is not given a comprehensive explanation. Instructors, please do not foist this awful text onto your students. Assign a quality book that they will continue to refer to during their practice - this is not it.
