Book Description

September 1, 2003 Mates, Dates...

How can a new girl fit in?

He talked, I listened. As I tried to appear interested, I thought that even Mojo was more interested in what I had to say. And he's a dog.

Theresa Joanne (T. J. to her friends) is having a difficult year. First her best friend moves away. Then there's the problem with boys: They never seem to notice that she's a girl. But when Lucy befriends T. J., things start to look up. But will Lucy's best friends Nesta and Izzie accept her and let her into their world of sleepovers, secrets, laughter, and advice?

About the Author

Cathy Hopkins lives in North London with her handsome husband and three deranged cats. She has had nineteen books published. The fifth book

in the Mates, Dates series, Mates, Dates, and Sole Survivors, was recently released in the U.K. Piccadilly Press has launched a new series from Hopkins,

based on the classic sleepover game of Truth or Consequences.

From AudioFile

Shirley Barthelmie breezes through this entertaining recording of MATES, DATES, AND SLEEPOVER SECRETS. This is the fourth title in the series by Cathy Hopkins featuring a group of London gal pals as they alternately stumble and sashay deeper into adolescence. In this title, T.J. develops a crush on a boy-should she tell her new friends about him or keep it to herself? Barthelmie sighs, giggles, and flirts, guiding her voiced characters through complicated friendships and romances in this British import. This is recommended for fans of books by Louise Rennison or as a good beach audio. 3.0 out of 5 stars Mates, Dates, and Sleepover Secrets, March 1, 2007
This review is from: Mates, Dates, and Sleepover Secrets (Mass Market Paperback)
Honestly, this book isn't really my style. It's a bit younger than I'm used to, and I think it'd be better for preteens about eleven (a very mature eleven) twelve and thirteen years old, who aren't ready for a full-out sex drugs and rock n' roll teen book. It was very light and cute, but honestly I can hardly remember what happened. It was just forgetable, and not really something to pick up for exciting memorable reading.

Now if you're looking for something quick and fluffy, I'd say go right ahead. ;)

5.0 out of 5 stars really good series!!!, June 13, 2005
This review is from: Mates, Dates, and Sleepover Secrets (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the 4th Mates, Dates book. T.J.'s best friend Hanna just moved away and T.J. is all lonely. She becomes friends with Lucy and gets along with Izzie and Nesta too. T.J. has never had a boyfriend cuz all of the boys think of her as one of them and not as a girl. Her friends decide to do a makeover for her to get the attention the boy who lives next to her cuz she has a crush on him. Once she goes out with him she realizes something. To find out about what happens to her, read this series!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mates, Dates and Sleepover Secrets, October 19, 2003
This review is from: Mates, Dates, and Sleepover Secrets (Mass Market Paperback)
The fourth book in the series is Mates, Dates and Sleepover Secrets by Cathy Hopkins.

It's the new characters turn to speak. That's right, you heard from Nesta, Lucy and Izzie. Now T.J. (Theresa Joanne the new character) is losing her friend and her brother. Her brother is going on a long trip with his girlfriend and her best friend, Hannah, has moved to Cape Town. Just when you think her life couldn't get any worse, the guy she likes completely thinks she's just a friend. No guy will go out with her because she is the arm wrestling champ and they want to go out with a girly girl, and not a tom boy.

The author's intension is just because someone moved away, doesn't mean your life is over for good. There still might be good that comes out of it all.

The book is definitely worth reading! T. J. slips right in to make the series great and exiting.
