As a professional educator I seek out resources that promote the objectives of my curriculum. The integration of language arts and math in Rusty's book does just that! Jumanji comes to life even more so than when Robin Williams starred in the 20th century flick. Students ask for more.

A bit of advice... you may want to create some very guided worksheets to help your students in this hands on/inquiry based approach to learning!

As a first year teacher, I was looking for ways to make math more interesting. Kids love picture books and if the book helps introduce a concept or helps with the interest of the subject than I am all for that. I have returned a lot of material that I did not like because of its format. Math and Literature, I think will be a great asset to my classroom. I like how the lessons are really well spelled out (something that is great for a first year teacher). The book tells you what grade the lesson is for, but gives ideas on how to use it for other grades as well. It gives great activities that require higher order thinking...who could ask for more.
