This review is from: MathCad 2001 I Premium (CD-ROM)
I have been a loyal Mathcad customer since Mathcad 4, and I hate to say this: Mathcad now has a hidden program called "C_DILLA" that installs without your knowledge on your computer. It is not typical. In fact, all information I have found on the web states that this program actually makes your CD burner UNABLE TO COPY COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL! (A web search using the keywords "C_DILLA" and "spyware" will take you to a plethora of info in this hidden program.) I can understand why this might be thought of as a "good thing", but it seems that since I installed Mathcad 2000i I cannot even make a single backup copy of the CD-ROM that I OWN! As far as I have read, this is a direct result of the C_DILLA program that MathSoft saw fit to place on my machine.<P[local website]P> I removed the hidden C_DILLA folder, but then Mathcad 2000i would not start without me typing in my serial number every time I started it, and then it would not access the handbooks no matter what. The C_DILLA software that MathSoft placed on my machine is the only difference. Once the C_DILLA This practice is wrong. Vote with your wallet. I suggest Mathematica or Derive software. If MathSoft doesn't change its tune, I am an ex-Mathcad user. Oh yes, Mathcad 11 uses ACTIVATION like Windows XP, and the MathSoft website says that you can only put your Mathcad 11 software on 2 machines. The old policy was that you could put it on as many machines as you wanted, but could only run it on one at a time. For me, that was one PC at home, one at work, and my laptop. This is no longer possible without buying a second single user license at full price. Greed kills. Like I said: Vote with your wallet. I don't see any reason to buy a piece of software from a company that feels compelled to install what is fast becoming known as more than just spyware. All of the above allegations can be backed up with a short web search. Do your homework before you buy Mathcad, or you may have CD burner problems you did not pay for.
