Format: Paperback
This rather compact book has given me hours of delight. There are many helpful examples; examples that reflect real problems. A drawback for many Mathematica books is that they revolve around easy examples, and that their utility is limited in the interest of clarity.

Zimmerman and Olnes display two areas of expertise: Mathematica and physics. It is clear that they are seasoned practitioners and they are sharing the results of the experience.

The graduated problems were quite helpful. The problems span the spectrum from easy to challenging and are an excellent adjunct to the text.

Mathematica is a sophisticated package and this volume was very helpful during the transition from pedagogic tutorials to attacking problems in grad school and the laboratory.

This is Good for Physicists, but not good for the students because this is deep and boring... Cover is Paper that is not good durability wise!

OK, we're in deep yogert here. We are ten or more years out of school and trying to find the secret information that will make us the superstars in our business. But, the secret is hidden in the guts of the robot, or the network operations, the optics resoluton, or the communications channel. And getting the right answer is what our career needs.

Also, this is the year for computer modeling. The movie Gravity swept the Oscars, the Dawn mission is photographing the two largest asteroids using an ion propulsion system flight path that took precision modeling, and stockbrokers are going crazy modelling the fractal nature of the stock market. Biological DNA research requires intensive 3D biochemical modeling and digital integrated circuits require complex optical models to detect and analyze surface defects on 450mm wide silicon wafers down to 6nm of resolution.

We simply don't have the time to play around with limited tools and outdated models. We need the most capable and accurate mathematical modelling tools at our disposal. We need to use tools that can show us charts and 3D plots of the resulting model testing. Mathematica can do all of this, but we need a book like this to show us how to rapidly apply this tool to the physical systems that we are trying to model.

The book contains several hundred examples of applied modeling including solar and atomic orbits, attraction surfaces, potential fields, dynamic systems, electric and magnetic field distributions and decay, and collision mechanics.

So, weather you need to determine rotor harmonics in a helicopter, vehicle availability in a multi-state trucking company, or crystalline resonance frequencies for orthogonal force vectors, this book will help you design the computer model to test your system and shorten your time to launch.
