intensive modelling, October 9, 2006
This review is from: Mathematical Methods and Modelling in Hydrocarbon Exploration and Production (Mathematics in Industry) (Hardcover)
The search for petroleum, and the maximal extraction of it, is crucial to the continued prosperity of the world. Hence this book is of very practical interest. The chapters show a wide range of skills and ideas, drawn from geology, geophysics, mathematics and computing. For the latter, we see interesting ideas and a massive computational modelling of underground deposits.
The signal analysis is very convoluted, when it comes to trying to reconstruct the layout of an oil field. What is also interesting is the modelling of the effects of pumping fluids into such a field. An active method that seeks to squeeze out as much of the oil or gas as possible.
Keep in mind that the latest modelling ideas are probably not described here. But are held as proprietary.
