Book Description

September 25, 2008 3639042956 978-3639042955
Sudden Cardiac Death due to Heart Failure remains aleading cause of death in the Western world. Thisbook is part of a long-term effort in studying thefunction of healthy and diseased hearts such thateffective treatment and preventive measures can bedeveloped. Mathematical modeling of Heart is a very intensiveprocess, both in terms of memory and computationalload. Biophysically and anatomically detailed models along with the ever-increasing need to simulate larger tissues for longer periods of time require the use of High Performance Computing techniques. This book presents a complete parallel computing system for the simulation of electrical propagation in a cardiac tissue. We expect that the mathematical models presented in this book can be be used in conjunction with experiments to test hypotheses by which arrhythmias may arise during Heart Failure. This book is meant to be accessible to graduatestudents, researchers, and teachers in computationalbiology, biophysics, electrical engineering, computerscience and other related disciplines. This book canserve as both an effective teaching text and acompact reference.
