I always loved science fiction and astronomy, and when I found this book in a bookstore 45 years ago while in high school, I was overjoyed. Now, even with the Web as a resource, I haven't found anywhere with all the formulas you might need to explain or research space travel. For example, I was the President of an Astronomical Society, so I want to be able to explain things like acceleration. Another example: I am finishing my 1st SF novel and this book allows me to include interesting facts without worrying I'm wrong. In the novel I needed to point out how long it would take to retrieve the Voyager I and II spacecraft (now just short of the edge of interstellar space - the heliopause) using an advanced space craft accelerating & decelerating at 175 Gs. I can do it now & be confident a theoretical NASA employee reading the novel won't find an error.

If you write SF, popularize astronomy, or just want to know more, I heartily recommend this book. Since it is out of print, IF YOU FIND A COPY, BUY IT.

A book from long ago that laid out the principles of spaceflight without a lot of dense jargon or heavy proofs.

It was a simple survey that connected the conceptual dots from mathematics to their application in space travel.

Perfect for grade school kids who had an interest in the NASA program but didn't see why they had to learn Algebra.
